Hello everybody,

I would really appreciate if anybody here could let me know what is (not) receivable today in Cyprus of
a) Astra 4A Nordic
b) Thor 5 T1
c) Thor 6 K1
with which dish size and in which location inside the island.

3 years ago a well known DXer from Lemesos/Limassol told me he could get full Astra 4A (former Sirius 4) Nordic Beam on his motorized 2.1m. Unfortunately Thor 5 and 6 were not up yet so i have no information about them.

Please don't advise me to the official footprints. I am seeking for facts and these say that the Verticals of Thor 5 T1 Beam reach even the Southern Aegean on dishes far smaller than 2m. Thor 5 T1 Horizontals and Thor 6 K1 are extremely difficult even on 3m. Cyprus is more East and thus the reception conditions might differ a lot. Worse or better because of a sidelobe, who knows ?

Looking forward in reading about your experience or knowledge.
Best regards.

old subject but i can say something about this subject...i am from manisa in turkey...manisa is near izmir...i have 1.5 meter prime focus dish...and i can receive all 4.8 nordic beam signals...but thor is more difficult than astra 4.8...only thor t1 beam's vertical signals can received...but what a pity we can not receive k1 beam and t1 beam's horizaontal signals....

Thanks a lot. The situation in Cyprus might be different but your report is interesting nevertheless. Are you aware if with bigger dishes nearby you anybody can get the rest ?

i know that environments of Edirne and Çanakkale are more lucky than us...also one of my friend lives in Balıkesir..and he has got 180 cm channel-master dish and flange invacom lnb...he can receive all t1 beams' vertical signals...also he can receive sometimes 10934 vertical frequence...Edirne Balıkesir,Çanakkale are west cities in turkey...i heard that thor nordic signals in winter is stronger than summers' signals...so i am waiting winter:)

The weakest freq. of Thor 5 T1 (11371 Ver 24500 7/8) : Canal Digital Package
The reception was 5 days ago with my 3.4m dish

Finally yesterday i finished the upgrade of my declination system on my big dish (AMS 3.4m).
This morning i check again my reception of Thor 5 T1. I'm satisfied with the results. First time i have (during summer months) 8dB
The beam stops at 44dBW - 1750 km NW direction from my location

Low SNR on Viasat Package (11785 Ver 27500 5/6) @ Astra 4A BSS Nordic (6.75 dB with 3.4m)

The reception of Astra 4A (BSS Nordic) @ 4.8E and Thor 5 T1 @ 0.8W from Cyprus is almost the same.
Unfortunately some packages on Astra 4A (BSS Nordic) like Viasat (11881 Hor 27500 3/4) is around 1.5dB lower than the others (reception without freezing)

From SES-5 Nordic i can lock only the 11265 Hor 30000 3/4 frequency.
The vertical frequencies are much lower than the horizontals (SES-5 Nordic) (via spectrum analyser)

After 2 weeks of working on my big dish i found the correct combination between the elevation & declination to have the max SNR for Thor 5 T1. I have to say that there is no any website that writes the correct parameters(dish elevation & declination ) for my location. Eash one of us we have to find these parameters practically because we are speaking about mm (especially on big dishes)
This was the max reception of Thor 5 T1 (11371 Ver 24500 7/8) : Canal Digital Package

I guess you mean no website has the parameters with more than one decimal?
Not a website, but maybe is Gorbtrack suiteable?

F.e. if I use as position
Latitude: 35.126°
Longitude: 33.430°
(That's somewhere in the middle of Cyprus)
I get the following
Azimuth: 47.873 W
Elevation: 35.468
for Thor 6 (0.85°W)

I'm not familiar with all the settings in this program, so maybe you have to add more data, f.e. which dish you use, to get even more accurate parameters.

All these parameters are correct but when you are using a big motorised dish the things changed completely (if you want the max reception for all satellites and not just for one).
The most important is to find the correct elevation of the polar mount and also the correct declination of the dish
