Hi, following on from my "what Freesat receiver should I buy" thread, I bought this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MDN7IWH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Try as I might I cannot find the make or model, only used it on freesat (it does freeview too) so far and whilst I am fine with it there seems to be only a now and next EPG.

There are also menus for multi sat set up, ethernet connection and Biss key entry. I might set up my Penta 85cm and see if I can used it for FTA football.

Any ideas what model it is and if i can set up a proper freesat EPG?

Cheers, John.

Since the blurb mentions Freesat along with the official logo, then it will have the Freesat EPG. A good price for satellite and terrestrial.

Sorry, disagree.

A great many sellers of generic Receivers stick a Freesat logo on their blurb, even though they aren't Freesat receivers, but bog-standard generics.

This is either wilful, or through ignorance of what Freesat actually is, as opposed to Free To Air.

And it doesn't appear in the current list of true Freesat receivers as shown at the right hand column here

Hence the reason why it only has now-and-next, as opposed to the proprietary Freesat EPG.

Thank you for the quick replies gents,I suspect Lazarus is right! I can live without the EPG but it would be nice, more for my lass than me. The only ID i can find on it is the H/W version number in the settings, this is dvbst_evb_V02 googling this brings up nothing.

Also I am getting no sound on the HD channels both through the HDMI and scart, AV is set to HDMI PCM but RAW and MUTE have no sound either.

If you read through the reviews on Amazon, one does state : 'It is NOT a Freeview + Freesat Receiver. IT'S A Terrestrial + Free to Air Receiver.'....however one of the photos on the item page does show a full 'Freeview' EPG...

A close up of the photo of the front panel shows the blurb "Free to Air HD + Satellite HD Receiver". I think it is neither Freesat nor Freeview. It had been miss-sold in my opinion. If it's not doing what you want (and it won't without the correct EPGs) you're entitled to your money back. You can quote misleading advertising if they quibble.

AFAIK there is no commercially available receiver that rolls Freeview and Freesat into one box. You could probably "roll your own" with a Dreambox or similar - others will know better on that.

Personally I think they are deliberately lying and should be forced to withdraw this advert.

Sorry, disagree :D

The last image of the receiver front panel confirms a seven day EPG, which may be accessed within a deeper part of the menu structure
(regardless of the legality of the Freesat/FreeView logo use)

I have run into companies promoting with the 'Digital Tick' legends, despite them having never registered/or been refused by the RDI, taking business away from others in the vicinity.

That could be referring to the EPG which can be broadcast under the DVB standard but isn't for Freesat. I've only ever come across those on German channels but that was some time ago.

Yet another misleading listing the 7 day EPG capability refers only to the DVB EPG stansard (as with most FTA receivers) and NOT the Freesat EPG and on 28E will only get "Now and next" EPG data.

If memory serves me correctly there is a thread somewhere on the Passion HD receiver and its ability to show the full Freesat EPG.

But that is a certified Freesat receiver isn't it?

Actually, thinking about it I think it may not be. I have this vague recollection that it was an FTA box that could be persuaded to behave like a Freesat box.

Well, whilst this mass debate has been going on, some of us have been out Ringing our Bells

The box shown is definitely not an approved Freesat compliant one.

Whether, like the Passion, it can be encouraged to use the Freesat EPG remains to be seen. It certainly doesn't do it straight out of the box but, whether or not, as Channel Hopper suggests, it can be induced so to do, remains to be established. Either way, it ain't a pukka Freesat receiver.

The OP, unsurprisingly, has only seen Now & Next. Personally, I think that's his lot.

You are correct, Paul.

The Passion is/was not an authentic Freesat receiver, but it could, like some other receivers, be made to adopt the Freesat EPG.

Whether the OP's box can, I very much doubt.

As @davemurgtroyd says, it's incorrectly described as being summat it isn't.

Sadly, as confirmed by most other respondents, I am.

But Channel Hopper offers a glimmer of hope. A faint glimmer, though :(

I find it very strange that the only trace of an iVtew HD stb that I can find on the web is on Amazon. The spec appears the same as the Openbox combo - I wonder whether it is a clone.
