Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. Ok , so my eyes have decieved me, but my hearing seems to be spot on.
The audio quality at Hotbird is a fraction (third) of what it is on Hellas Sat. What is it with them ? can they not afford the extra sound bandwidth on hotbird ???
there's also...
Is it just my imagination or is the picture quality on Rik Sat (12111/V/27500)a lot worse on Hotbird (having just appeared on this new transponder) and the audio really awfull comapred to the same channel on Hellas Sat (11146/V/3333) ?
Has anybody got bit-rate meters on their receiver's to...
Maybe I should not have used the word repair - I should have said replace the eeprom and costing that work, hopefully about 50 quid.
Not sure what your angle is on the dog/baby/wife ??
hopefully once I get the new power board in my original receiver, I will send the unit to Eurosat in London to a get a quote to repair the eeprom probably that exists on that one. hopefully not more than £50 otherwise I will keep it as spares. Was thinking of selling it, but in my case it's more...
Using my original psu in the replacement receiver - 3 hours in standby and the unit is as cool as a cucumber. I put the old psu in my receiver and within the same time you could not touch the top of the receiver it was so hot and soon after began to start clicking again - so the psu hasn't...

things are going from bad to worse this morning. First thing this morning the receiver was making a clicking noise with nothing oin the display.
Powered the thing off and on and there is a little C on the display and a rapid succession of clicking noises folllowed by a short few seconds pause...
wow, well if I had not seen that with my own eyes I would not have believed something like that would work, but it did ! The diode appears to be fine. Well had the batteries out for an hour , still no luck. Even removed the power plug from the receiver for a few minutes and tried again without...
Well the owner has suggested I take the batteries out for half an hour and it should reset back to def. The original owner used it to set up the receiver I am asssuming I have buggered something up in the process of resetting/setting.
Channel Hopper, I bought another 2nd hand receiver which...
I have only just found out from the previous owner the power button never worked (even though the RC led lights up when pressed) , but all the others did. In fact he used the same remote to set up the receiver with some channels.
Well, now with all the additional steps of resetting and setting...
I think I know what you mean about flaky, but I don't believe this is the problem because when you press any of the buttons on the remote the led lights up quite easily.
I have seen some where they don't, but taking the remote apart and painting silver paint on the underside of the buttons...
