Astra 2F at 28.2E: General Discussion

I understand the longer term objective, is to transmit the BBC local news in HD - at least in some regions.

It is a good thing for many on the continent, that the Channel islands are part of the UK, becaue otherwise, the spot would be aimed further north!

Is that because, here in the UK, we can get the signal on a bit of wet string, & all the ex-pats are getting, well not much or nothing at all? :-saw

Yes, I saw that too - they can change the shape of the dish in 2F to suit the requirements of the UK broadcaster, so the UK spot beam, will be more of a spot, I'm afraid.

Yes, here in the Eastern England - I'm getting EXACTLY the same readings on 11053 (95% & 65%signal) as another BBC HD transponder. Odd.

    Astra 1N chat - January 2012

What do you expect living in the bleakest part of God's own country:-rofl2 mate! - I can just about throw a stone through the window of my local exchange, but I do get the BT standard of 8MB just about - when it is working - it is nice on the Bronte moors area though. Bob

    Astra 1N chat - January 2012

I'm not worried, LLF myself:D But the only reason stations went free to air with a spot beam, was because the signal would not be very strong outside the UK - yes, I know there are some pretty big dishes used in some places. Anyway, carry on viewing:) Bob

So much for the UK spot beam! it sounds to me like the Swedes have lost it, & all the rest of Europe can watch UK Licence funded BBC! Amazing!

    Astra 1N chat - January 2012

I've noticed this pixilation on the BBC news channel about 30 mins ago, & according to the signal readings, I'm getting 100% quality & 90% sig strength, I suggest it is an uplink signal problem, perhaps as the changeover will take place tonight & 1N is being tested? Bob

So, it seems that 1N arrived in the nick of time! I wonder if the batteries are failing on 2D?

Astra 1N tests - latest chat

I'm getting C4 HD Ok, my Sky HD box says 100% signal quality, but 0% signal strength - it is rock solid to watch, but how can it be with those readings?

You would think by now, someone would have invented a refueler & battery replacement service for Birds, they could fly round & do the lot on one mission:-ohcrap

Astra 1N @ 28E - about to go on air / on air!!

I hope someone will post on here, when I can receive this on a SKY HD box, Thanks in anticipation EDIT: for those struggling with second rate Bits & bods, I managed to pick this up on a cheapo Skyline HDSR200 with the following settings: (I had to use all of them) 11127V 22000, 2/3, TONE ON...

Astra 1N @ 28E - about to go on air / on air!!

I assume with a Satellite getting towards the end of it's life & with cell power falling, shutting down some of it's transponders could extend the useful life of it?
