Why dont you use the extra chanels function described on the "Cant get 2D? Heres where to find the main psb channels"thread at the top of the page,that way youll get channel 4 ,4+ and ITV with out changing your dish!
If anyone is interested -I was on holiday in England ,got the remote out of the cupboard from which my mum had hidden it ,and it worked first time!!!!

My Dad swears it didnt work and that its because hes put the batteries in and left it that its somehow begun to work...
Have to wait a bit longer as my Dad has now lost the remote so didnt bring it over.Im going back in february so I hope to find it then.He doesnt seem that bothered as he said it didnt work anyway!
Ill first get the remote in the beginning of January so I can check it then.If it is a dud Ill just have to write off the 10 pound spent .
As you said it could be either the batterys being round the wrong way or the TV switch.
The important thing for me is knowing leaving the batteries out...

Just thought you would like to know that I managed to change my Sky card to an FTV card without any problems.
All you have to do is set it up in England and phone the customer service number up where they ask you the serial and version number of your digibox.
All the channels came through...
When you say "phone home" is this the digibox itself or does it have to be connected to a phone.
If it doesnt have to be connected to the phone is there anyway they can find out where your receiving the signal from (i.e abroad)
