They've been showing some amazingly obscure movies between midnight and two a.m. each day. The broadcast quality of the movies is best described as "worn-out pirated VHS", but I've seen a couple of things I'd never seen before. The crappiness of the prints seems to add to the ambience somewhow.
Maybe TS-Doctor will "fix" the streams?

After days of searching, I've finally found some software which will seamlessly (and losslessly) join the .dvr files from the Fortec Star 4400 into one large MPEG2 .ts file, ready for editing in VideoReDo Plus.
It's called TS-Doctor and you can download it here...
Have you now installed the latest firmware since last posting? Mine records fine.
The main problem I now have with the FS-4400, is joining its ".dvr" output files into one big ".ts" file without glitches. I've been trying different software for days now.

Scroll down to Parental Lock but don't choose it (just highlight it)
Press Red Button four times
Press OK
Input new Master Code as 0000
If you want to install decryption keys, try the software at this link...
Oh. I can answer this, although you've probably figured it out by now.

Menu
System Setup
OSD Setting
Change the "Subtitle Display" setting to "Off" and exit back out of...
The box is fine. I took it to my parents' house yesterday, plugged in their old Sky Digital dish, and it scanned in 340 channels.
So, it's either the dish alignment or wiring I suppose. An engineer's coming on Thursday to take a look.
I've just done the Blind Scan one last time...
