    reed for Actuator Arm

Ive brought a Maplin reed switch before for my superjack arm (came with a dicky switch on delivery). If the maplin reed switch is a little small.... wrap some self amalgamating tape around the glass body of the switch to bulk it out a little.

Hadn't seen one of these for a while -

Well after a few nights of tinkering, the PSU is fixed. Looks like when two caps failed, they took with it the two high speed switching transistors (C2335's replaced by a modern equiv - BUL510), a surge resistor (which acted like a fuse) and the TL494CN IC (switchmode psu chip). Replacing all...

I'll take a picture tonight. Never seen one of these before, and Ive done 6 years in electrical wholesale. 3 thin pins in a row, think it was 6A rated, unfused. Poor design compared to our bulldog-like BS1363 plug :) BS546 btw is 3 round pins in a triangular arrangement, and is deffinately not...

Well this one appears to be a Sony SL-T7 rebadged machine (A multi standard C5). Both the C5, C7 and T7 all share a the basic guts and the faultfinding hints on PALsite for the C7 equally apply to the C5 in many cases. One thing that struck me about this machine is the lack of use its had! Cant...

Well Ive changed the plug on this "russian tank of a video recorder" to a BS1363, plugged it in and nothing! Found the first internal fuse has blown, right by main power switch inside the machine. Replaced that and only the clock powered up and it refused to come out of standby. Stripped the...

Well if you want shot of it, can I have first dibs? Im actually heading up to Newbury tomorrow and *might* be able to swing by to grab it if time permits, or another day?

Ive got a fairly good working C20 on the bench so that I can dub from Beta to DVD etc. Great bit of kit and along with an archive of old tapes ive "inherited" its like a trip back in time. Seeing Southern TV and TVS continuity - so quaint compared to the garish ITV of today. Back to the beta...

London Van users - The Low Emission Zone rules

Haha take off the CAT? This van has two silencer boxes and thats it! No CAT in sight. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow! No engine management unit (its got a timing belt). The engine is beautifully simple and reliable. Could do lunar mileage easily. Shame the bodywork wont. Old "smiley" transits rust...

DIY Declination Control (Sky Zone 2)

I think this setup needs to go up there with the car tyre mount and the traffic cone mount :) Seriously though.. will you be waterproofing that motor?

    Recommendation for quad LNB please.

Well I've got a Black Ultra and it certainly works well. Construction wise, its got a matt black body and a white LNB cap. For UV resistance, black plastics generally last a lot longer but will get hotter in the midday sun. Funnily enough, we don't have the problem of LNBs melting in the heat...

Found this on Astra 1C (2east). ITV Central's engineers have a sense of humor it seems :)

London Van users - The Low Emission Zone rules

I too drive an old van - 2000 (w reg) ford transit. I always avoid London when I can but I do have friends up there Id like to see occasionally. Im torn between being antisocial, and fitting a filter (reducing the 70hp engine down so its even less responsive)... or buying a newer van! :( Not great.

    Emitor Satlook Color HD

Well I found that ITV3 wouldnt show up. But my azbox can, loud and clear from the same LNB. Also Ive tried 2 different LNBs now, both an MTI supremeline and my new Inverto Black ultra. No shorts in the cable or issues with the LNBs. As for price.... £899 on creativesat's ebay shop.

Crap wall, wall plugs, bolts - HELP!

Personally, I'd have used some T&K brackets and positioned them a little lower from that window ledge. They would give you a little more distance from the wall and a lot more strength than that bracket. Especially as your bricks are weak, you'd wanna distribute weight across several points on...
