Astra 2G at 28.2E: General Discussion

Same here in Algarve, whopping signal on those txp's- shame there's nothing worth watching on them!

    Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E

Thank you for that @Pietclock , reading up on that would appear to turn my earlier statement on its head- she is slowing down therefore the orbit altitude is reducing.

    Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E

According to Satellite-Calculations, the altitude appears to be dropping now, averaging 35833 km as opposed to almost 35840 the other day, which would explain the apparent 'slowing down'.

    Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E

Looking at N2YO, it's now (Mon pm) at 32.5°E. Comparing 2G's altitude with 2E's, it appears she's 45km higher than the Clarke belt (35,840 km vs. 35.795), thus slowing her orbit slightly compared to Earth's 24 hour period. It will be interesting to see when they start to bring her into line, but...

    Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E

Interpolating the reports above (and N2YO's site today- 36.6°E) 2G would appear to be 'moving' at roughly 0.5°/day. Relatively slow compare with recent relocations, and slightly surprising considering the apparent state of EB. OK, 2E & F appear to have sufficient capacity, but SES do seem to...

Astra 2E: Iberia & Balearics Reports

Perhaps the tolerances vary between individual units, because I was once having difficulties with an old 2D transponder. Tried the Ultra single, twin & quad, and the quad was the only one that gave good results. The Ultras do have unusually high gain though and this may upset some receivers'...

I have experienced this scenario too over an even shorter distance (<100m), but only on a specific frequency.

Astra 2E at 28.2E: General Discussion Part 2

I was going to try this very thing in the next week or two on a customer's 3m p/f, but I've been beaten to it. See today's ADN.

' 'Fraid not. A customer of mine has a 3m in Moncarapacho, and getting nothing on a Pace 2600C1. Haven't been round yet to try the speccy & a tweak, but it's not looking good :(

Astra 2E at 28.2E: General Discussion Part 2

Quite an amazing range of responses here too. From "How can they do this?", "Why are they doing this", "That's it, I'm going back to England" (seriously!!), to the more resigned "Oh well, it's been good while it lasted", "Need to learn Portuguese now" and "Will be spending more time in the pub".
