Well how about that? The e-mail I sent a couple of days ago worked! I had a brief chat with a lovely lady called Sarah Maxwell who is actioning my cancellation and I can cancel my DD with the bank. My services end on August 1st which means I don't have to call on July 8th :D

RESULT! It's over and I can relax now! THIS IS THE BEST NEWS TODAY! I'm free of my contract! WHOOPEEEEEEEEE!!!

And why not? This is a brilliant day! She could see that I've had the runaround quite a bit and so she has seen to the problem. It's like a heavy weight has been lifted from me. Sarah, thank you very much for making my day!:-party2

Now....if you can get Microsoft surgically removed, you will be completely free. Or maybe you already use an open source OS on your computer.

You have too much faith in humanity :) September the debt collection letters will start and Sky will claim they have no record of your cancellation...

Yeah and it felt pretty damn good this morning when I went into the bank and cancelled my Direct Debit for Sky. I'm loving this! :-buttkick

you will now get bombarded with offers of free this, half price this if you come back. my main gripe is there is more adverts than programming

What I don't agree with is you pay a subscription and find just about all of these channels show adverts. Sky One should be free to air. They can spam me with lots of mail to come back and the whole damn lot will go into the shredder. :D

At least Sky seem to have the opt out option.
I contacted their advertising department, after getting Sky rubbish, addressed to me, through the mail, and informed them that I would never join Sky, as I never watch any British Television, Satellite, or Terrestrial, and requested that they never send me any mail, and so far, about 9 months later, they haven't.
I have since joined Sky broadband, as it was the cheapest, Fibre Optic, option, and even in my account, I have the options of never being contacted, about any other services, which also seems to work, as the only emails I get, from Sky, are regarding billing.

French pay TV isn't too bad as far as ads go. What *is* bad (yes, I know - I whinge about this often) with Canalsat/Canal+ is the awful receivers they force on you :( :(

I've also requested no marketing a long time ago (when they first offered the option) but recently I've had emails asking me if I'm really sure I want no marketing and that I might be missing out on great offers so I should click the link in the email to update my settings. I've resisted the temptation. ;)

I am sure they offer a CAM for their services...

No, they don't. You *could* get a "Canalready" ie. hobbled receiver in which to put a viaccess card, but this facility is being withdrawn. Henceforth you will *have* to use in the in-house "receiver" (for want of a better word). The situation is a bit complicated because the jury is literally out regarding this - there is an ongoing court case between Aston and Canalsat regarding this but the outcome is far from certain.

There *is* a Canal+ CAM you can put in a suitable TV, but this is for receiving terrestrial broadcasts and covers very few channels.
