This is my current challenge ..and it wont be easy ..
I suspect I can pick up the signal ok ..using the QFH and Airspy ..
BUT ..
It is not possible to process and display in real time ...
LRPT ..
Digital data ..
I'm a long way off this yet ...but the first challenge will be to capture the baseband as it passes ..
Which requires a long recording ....so a 64 bit O/S essential to avoid having 2gb chunks generated ..
SDR # does not naturally lend itself to this process ...but I have found a Baseband recorder plugin which does allow for long baseband recordings ....so ALL captured over ..say a 10 minute pass ..
Thats one huge file ..
This will be the first hurdle ..
Image processing ...the next..
Can I do it ?
Well ..
I'll give it a go ..

..All set up and ready on the 64bit lappy ...
M2 pass due in about 15 minutes ..
Almost direct overhead ..
This should be fun ..
I just hope it all goes smoothly..

PoxSlag is suddenly more active than it has been all day ...and _very_ close to my intended target frequency ..
Grrr..

At it's max -ish now ..and about 20db signal ..
but still those pagers come ..and produce ghost images accross the spectrum..

Well ...
I'm having no success decoding this ..but then the process is very complicated ..
But ...
there is apparently a possiblity it can be done in real time ..
From what I understand (and that is very little atm ) ...this involves use of a dedicated plugin for SDR#

Problem is ...the guys who designed it are Russian ...and I can't read it ..
Tried a translator ...but the broken Englidh that resulted is all but gobbledygook..
Alex buddy ......
any chance you could take a look and possibly help with some intelligable translation ?

Managed to install the Meteor plugin ..more by luck than good management ..
..and although I'm not using integrated tracking ....am hopefull it will output a useable wav file for processing when the satellite passes again ..
Currently it is in continual search mode ...and fingers crossed will lock when in the presence of Meteor M2s downlink data..

Half the battle would be won ...if I could read Russian ..

anyway ...
enough for tonight .
I'm Forked ..
g'nite
;)

Hm that site is only on about tracking the satellite use DDE Tracker and recording or capturing the signal using QPSK Modulator. The latter allows you to output the stream directly to LRPTOffLineDecoder program for real time decoding (apparently a slightly modified version of 'original' version, which only actually does offline?). A lot of talk is about tracking the satellite world-wide and receiving images from other users real time (a la PP) but I guess you're not interested in that right now.

What exact issues are you having VS?

Basically Alex ..
How to use the various sofwares ..
Originally I was under the impression and rightly so apparently...that everything was a manual process ..
Find the downlink ...
capture a section of baseband ...
process this to extract the data needed ..
part process prior to offering to the LRPT program.

I think I understood that the process is at least partly automated now ..in that signal and data pre- processing by SDR# is possible ..leaving a wav file which can be used directly with the LRPT decoder program ..
???

But I guess it is a question of how the various bits of the process come together ..
Without an idiot description to use ...I'm very much feeling my way in ..

From what I understand, the QPSK Demodulator is a plugin for SDR(?) which feeds the captured traffic via TCP to that offline decoder. Apparently, it's not only images that M2 sends but also some data.. according to comments.

Have you checked these sites?

I have them both bookmarked Alex ...but not fully investigated as yet ..
I shall read some more and no doubt have more questions than answers ..
Hopefully I'll crack it yet ..

Getting there slowly ..
I was a bit late and almost missed the recent pass ...but had it locked long enough to see it flag up locked ..and generate a small file ..
Constellation window of the plugin also showing activity ..
Its a start I guess..

Managed to grab a fragment of the pass ...and tried to decode manually ...
On account I still can't fathom the auto process ..
But ...I'll persevere ..

Hard to tell from those fragments ...but ...polar orbit images of the UK from my location ..
similar to noaa apt weather images ..but 12x higher resolution ..is claimed.

Almost had a good pass this morning ..
Nice pic of Italy ...
But the pass over my house was not collected ..due to pagers crashing the M2 demodulator ..
You can see evidence of how destructive the pagers are by looking at the earlier Italy image ..
The dropout lines are where pagers crashed the party ..

Sadly the demodulator was not active for the later UK pass ..
I'm hoping S B will be able to help by creating a suitable filter for the Airspys front end ..
