I was wrong last night..... it is actually possible to use pipe inside the holder with diameter up to 120mm. I had one piece of such a pipe laying around, so now it is holding CM 1,8m. How many people did the install? Right, only me !

Lovely job.

Are you planning to fit an LNB and cable it, or just going to leave it as a Modern Art installation?
Nah - maybe put an LNB and a meter on a short lead and try 28.2E or somthing like that just for the hell of it.

You know it's mostly put up beause he can
(like taking a car from the collcetion out for spin on a sunny summers day)...

3-man 1/2-hour job and central drum is in place. It is made of aluminum, but does not mean light as it's diameter is about 123cm.
Add: Wife asked: What is that? I've said: It is gonna be wind-mill, we will have free electricity! :-biglaugh

Hi Rima, this is fantastic. I like windmills too.
On first picture is 2.3M windmill and 1.6M antenna with prehistoric polar mount. Working well but too small for C band.
On second picture 2.5M antenna , I plan to set up soon. I got it from soviet submarine base, made from aluminium but real heavy.
Unfortunately missed 5M antenna, it was recycled 7 years ago.

Almost forgot that everything should be clean, so gave the drum some cleaning with the kitchen-sponge. Actually, doing some activities with antenna this size , it is already separate events: cleaning- you can spend all day. Taking actuators out of the garage and bringing them to installation place, and so on. Actuators, even without motors weight a lot, so moving them around is better by 2 persons. Platform is 3,5m, actuators about the same size.

So, has your wife realised you were fibbing about the wind turbine yet?

Amazing - I was just going to post a question on how long you think you could get away with that explanation... ;)

But in any case case - it's looking good - looking forward to seeing reception figures for 28.2/5E and Badr7 or Nilesat

I like the windmill!

That prehistoric PM doesn't look all that dumb, though.
High mounting point of swivel part mean centre-of-gravity close to swivel == less strain on actuator at extremes, and declination control that could be made to work with offsets as well...
Is that local made, or did that come off the russian base as well? :)

I like that fact the the drum is same size as the "large dishes" that most other people consider a large project to install and configure...
And that even without the reflector, the mount+drum dwarfs the CM180 next to it...

Have both actuators installed, couple of periods of severe rain slowed the process considerably. IMG_20160730_215530 (Custom).jpg Pick from actuator IMG_20160730_192207 (Custom).jpg and couple of baskets of nuts&bolts IMG_20160730_183501 (Custom).jpg IMG_20160730_220610 (Custom).jpg ( I think about 30 kilos) . I do not think there are lots of big ones missing, but small ones for sure. Problem with them (OK, not a problem but issue) that they are not Metric , means that to replace them I will need to figure something out. Did not install any of two severe duty motors IMG_20160730_221020 (Custom).jpg IMG_20160730_221026 (Custom).jpg IMG_20160730_221033 (Custom).jpg , in fact I did not think yet how to power them up. I do not think I will be able to renovate all electrical installation. In the begging will be turning antenna by mechanical means.

Just provide SWMBO with a crank- handle and tell her it's for operating her new mangle.

Yes prehistoric PM is probably made by local master about 10 years ago, I just painted it.
1.6M antenna I got for free, it has alde written on it , may be even made in Latvia.
Working on 2.5M stand at the moment. I hope 0.8M hole was enough, can't dig more. Stones only ...

I am afraid ghat soon I will not be able to make nice pictures, as all antenna will not be fitting in the view of the camera. Or, I should go to neighbor's property to take some pictures. I am giving wash to the strength-ribs, it takes time. But, it takes even more time to fix them to the drum.
