I would probably not mind to have polar-mounted CM 1,2m someday. But this one looks too ugly... too expensive, too dirty, but most importantly- something is wrong with it's "face" - some strength ribs are visible over. Of course, if owner would agree to get rid of it for, lets say... 20 EUR, than maybe.

That is one fine specimen of the original channel master type 120...
The ribbing effect evident on the front is common to these plastic dishes, and is dirt building up over the years.
The reflector seems ok - these things don't really age unless physically damaged during handling (frayed ribbings, or a cracked rim if really mishandled). It just needs a good wash with a high-pressure hosing to remove all the algae growth and general dirt.
The polar mount seems fairly ok - a lot less rust than some other specimens (especially my two!), might even be saved without sand-blasting and repainting.
(And of course change all the nuts and bolts to INOX  )

I'm sure I've seen this dish advertised earlier this year.
Seller must be agreeable to a good price... (in any case, EUR 50 is not too bad!)
In short... go for it! (I would if it had been near me...)

And of course - the mount is really handy - 3" mounts are not that common, and it would fit perfectly on your balcony, I would speculate.

Martin,

That's a good job you made of cleaning up that dish, what was the method?

Hi moonbase,

I just used very fine wire wool and soap and water, then gave it a good wash down to remove the fine metal particles from the wire wool. I would not recommend using the rougher type, something like this would be ideal.

I use a pressure washer for my dishes.
Not entirely comfortable with abrasive stuff - although cleaning a timber-frame with a pressure washer is also abrasive to some extent. But the SMC dishes comes out without a scratch.
But I do not get quite the same degree of cleaning of the back ribbing - there's always nooks and crannies where the water doesn't get in directly.

TBH st1 its not that abrasive with the very fine stuff, you could use it on your car paint work and do less damage than using the wrong cloth,

Not too far from me in South Wales. But £450... can't quite justify that at this moment in time.

Well I bloody can. But I can't pick it up.
Perhaps I should rent the dish to you?
You know, 10 GBP per week, and when appropriate, I pick it up and take it back home 8) 8) 8)

Perhaps polar-mount is rare one, but dish has crack on the edge and price is big. Plus delivery. Seller is not going to "cooperate"
My opinion- it is not a bargain.

Xbones, didn't you have a mount made for you, just like the one in the picture?

I have fired off a question asking if the mount is original, Its not the one I had made. It doesn't look like an original CM polar mount. I might go and take a look at it to evaluate the damage!

I think it looks very much like an original Channel Master mount...
And it fits with the age of the dish, from the label (residue) it is obviously an original Channel Master dish, from back when they made Polar Mounts.

In reality, the cracked rim is not a massive problem.
But yes, the price may be a bit steep. It's more the "authentic equipment" factor that would have an influence.
Seeing that mapperuo just bought a CM1.8 with a polar mount that by itself cost more than 450 GBP, the net value is probably not too bad, if the price could be negotiated a little bit down.

Hi --
I,m sure the mount is an original -- ( the piece of angle bolted across it is not)
It is identical to my own polar mount which is now well over 20 years old -- i bought a full setup including ground stand second hand around 14 years ago from a chap who had purchased it brand new :)
