Do you think that gibertini mount will be strong enough to deal with the storms?

my m8 still has one ground mounted on a 3 inch pole and its survived 100mph winds. its a good piece of kit that should last many a year if installed properly and looked after

Whatever polar mount you pick, pretty much any will be stronger than a DiSEqC motor :)

And do wait for them to pop up on eBay - there might now be any now (unless you fancy a quick hop to France) but they will turn up. I do have a spare 1.2m CM with the polar mount lying in the garage but I don't really want to part with it until I decide what to do with it.

There's also this, which seems like a decent bit of kit but a little overpriced in my opinion (can always shoot an offer to him). I know it's not fibre glass and won't be as strong as a CM/Prodelin but prime focus dishes tend to be less susceptible to wind damage because they would naturally be looking higher up in the sky than an offset. They are also a perfect circle rather than an oval - this (I believe) gives it more rigidity as well. Might be wrong with the last bit though...

If he did CJ, he could always get a Laminas delivered to me and pick it up...I'm less than two hours from the ferry ports...

(Just checked, a 1.2M Laminas, €24 carriage within France)

Thnks, but not easy for me to get there. In the end it would be very time consuming and probably same price.

Just checking the Gibertini dish and mount option right now.

Is the gibertini like that also? A bit worried about Gibertini big size (125x134), in a roof exposed to wind. If it was ok, on the other hand that size would be very welcomed for signal reasons... :)

No, the Gibertini is an offset dish, so wouldn't be looking up at the sky but more towards the horizon - hence being the perfect sail in the winds. It's still a good dish and well worth considering... but... be prepared.

Actually, I seem to remember @aceb having to straighten his 1.2m Gibby because of the winds and he's a stone's throw away from you.

Just to reinforce what has been said above i have the Gibby 1.25m and is now ground mounted and has seen some ludicrous wind speeds as its pretty exposed and in all that time it has not budged an inch no warpage on the dish the only slight adjustment i made was to one of the actuator bolts which i assume i had not tightened enough and with the wind exposure rattling the dish could have caused it to come slightly loose.

As for the main Polar mount i have never had to touch this since first installation.

Regards

ISTR someone, maybe Heuvos mentioning the Gib PM, due to the design is restricted in its travel preventing the dish reaching each extreme of the arc?

CM with its robust mount seems a safer option, but price gap too big and I wouldn't like to wait to find something second hand. So definitely going for the gibertini. I will let you know if it works well or it moves...

By the way, will I need to buy anything to fix my lnb in the gibertini? (it is invacom twin 0,3d:cool:.

Thanks

After reading different comments in different places it doesn't seem very clear that a feedhorn and a 120 lnb performs significantly better than a lnbf in this dish.

But on the other hand I found out a couple of potential problems for installation. Is a 2,5'' pole strong ok for the gibertini? I couldn't find a 3'' one...

Which brackets do I need to clear the wall? (it will be wall mounted, with the wall facing south). It looks in photos that the actuator needs some space, but I don't know how far back it is going to go. Will 24'' T&K brackets be enough?

Thanks

24" T&K would be fine i just measured the distance from the pole on mine to the rear of the actuator and it sticks out at around 19" so you have some 6" clearance

Or...if you can find them at a decent price, spider legs are worth looking into.

I couldn't find those spider legs!

I have just read that 24'' T&K brackets are for poles up to 2''. Do you know if they will still work with a thicker pole? (2,5'')

you will need to drill extra holes and ideally fill in one on each with weld or something. if its carrying a 3 inch pole you would be better with k and k or ktk for extra security. its a shame your down south as i have a pair of custom made k brackets here that are massive overkill and support a very large dish that will never get used

It's not expensive to post these via Hermes or similar. I posted my set of TK brackets wrapped in cling-film once!

SSS sell spider legs... but, as usual, at extortionate prices.

I doubt Hermes would take these or they possibly would as i collected these for Gibertini and they where custom made from 7mm angle iron and weigh quite a bit, Lets put it this way to anchor those ones he mentioned you would probably have to drill through your cavity (double skin) to the opposite side and bolt them to hold them up LOL;)

I couldn't get the hypex brackets so finally going for the t&k type ones. Anybody knows which u-bolt I need for a 2,5'' pole?

(the 2,5'', the 2,75'' or the 3''?)
