1st coat painting went pretty good, will need two coats for good uniform cover. Paint adhesion was good and application was best using a 6" roller.
2nd coat to be applied today.
Paint used: Leyland Trade metal paint, 1 x £15 - 750ml tin did both back ,front and support arms with a little left in the tin.

John,

Was there no need to apply a primer or was the paint an all in one type?
It looks good, part time work as a painter and decorator in your retirement seems to be an option :)

On the Fortress brand paint MB it did specifically state to use a primer on bare aluminium but on this Leyland Trade metal paint it didn't.
The second coat was applied this morning and i'm happy with it .... using a "sponge" type roller gave a better finish. Total cost to paint = £30.
Going to spin the reflector around 180° tomorrow to proper way up and fit the "Elite Antennas" logo assuming the final coat of paint has cured/hardened sufficiently.

John,

That's useful information about the sponge type roller giving a better finish. I have a Precision 1.5m here in need of a coat of paint, I might give it a go as soon as I know I am going to have a good days weather. What colour Leyland paint did you use, was it a specific colour code or just classed as "white metal paint"?

Thx

Second coat applied yesterday and is fully cured/dried this morning so good to go to fit the Elite logo.
Another tip if repainting you antenna @moonbase ... don't over fill the sponge type roller and try to roll out any thick paint covering onto an unpainted bit of the reflector so as to achieve a covering that is not too thick.
Using a heat gun, the reflector & logo transfers were very slightly pre-heated as per Elite's recommendation, to ensure trouble free application, which proved to be the case.
Nearly time to lower the 1.8 for any mount maintenance, bearing checks etc before installing the 2.2 sometime next week weather permitting.

You will always get a better finish with spray paint, but if your not used to spraying you could end up with lots of runs

Hi satmania,
With the paint i used it only gave me two options to apply it...... brush or roller. The paint brush method was not a very good finish, using a sponge roller gave pretty good results but i would have preferred to use a spray on method if possible. The next time i re-paint any of my metal dishes i am going to try some Acrylic spray on paint. It's not an easy choice to make as there are so many different brands of paint to choose from.

Your dish looks great John and a good finish can be had as you have done, i linked satmania to your thread, spraying is a lot harder to do, one run and its hard work getting it to blend back and easy to make a mess if you haven't done any before,

My advice to satmania would be to use the roller if you've never done any spraying before, any runs can be rolled out, not when spraying.

Follow Johns advice and you will have a lovely looking dish like Johns.

@sband will like this .... having a bit more time now iv'e been having a tinker with the Pololu pc servo controller again. Once set up on the pc program for pulse ranges it has far better control of the servo motor. Powering up with an external power source is required. Going to add the optional potentiometer for local rotational range instead of having a pc screen open.

You're right:-)
Have you seen the script examples here Pololu - 6.c. Example Scripts ?
Scroll down to Using an analog input to control servos
That's what I was thinking of using to monitor the LNB voltage to set V/H or L/R with a switch to change between linear & circular. Are you thinking of using the pot + sub-routines to read pot and write to pulse?
