Thanks again G, mesh dish will perform poor in KU with any LNB, think my minds made up the bulleseye F/D is not suitable for my dish, bit dubious regarding the pansat, F/D on the Corotor matches my dish and gives me options in polarity,

I can swap and change modify things and do comparison test in the future, thanks again.

The Winegard had a lot of metal and very small holes in the mesh (36% open). I think it was only a dB or so down on solid, the spec said it was 4.8dB up on the IRTE at KU. However, the f/d of 0.278 is unlikely to have matched the Ku part of the feed. I had to use a "Golden Ring" on the Chaparrals to fully illuminate it. The ring extended the open guide and has a small ridge to widen the beam. The other thing I don't trust is whole Ku arrangement of a probe in the guide with the signal passing up a length of semi-rigid to a dipole in a corner reflector. See attached. Too many bits in the way! The later ones look like they have a circular guide feed on Ku.

Just FYI, I have a Winegard with small holes (Micromesh, instead of Mesh) but believe me, it doesn't perform well in KU, even or not with a Chaparral Corrotor (delivered by default with my antenna). You can forget it and don't spend time or money on it.
but this is just my experience...

It sounds like the same as mine which was the "Pinnacle" model. Unfortunately I sold it some time ago. I think the real problem on Ku was its f/d and the difficulty of illuminating it with any available feed. There's no way a corner reflector (as in corotor II) could do it. I think those deep dishes were sold in the US to minimise terrestrial interference at C band.

John,

Is this the new 2.2m Elite you are collecting? Awesome, you gonna be rockin on the C Band with that one.
Did you go for the powder coat finish or just bare metal?

I am looking forward to the installation topic and the pics, lovely piece of kit, it seems true what "scopus" was saying, you got plenty solid in the tank. :)

Rgds

Yep, me and scopus nipping down Tuesday to collect it.
Went for un-painted to keep the costs down as i have the facilities here to paint.
Btw, it's all lies i tell you lol.

Mesh/KU band don't do well from all my reading, most of the older dishes are designed for C band even the solid dishes,

Reading up about the Corotor, i will be getting the wide band international model 10700 12750 3.4 4.2 it should be fully illuminated,

Other models are corotor II 11700-12750 3.7 4.2
corotor II plus wideband 10950 12750 3.4 4.2

I can only but try this, I am one for tinkering to try and improve reception, i wont be happy until I'm satisfied ive squeezed every drop of DB out of this dish.

blademedia,

Have you a link to the wide band international model of co-rotor that you plan to get?
Or, have I missed it somewhere in this topic?

Hi - John ..
I have an old co rotor same as the one in the video .. and have experimented a little with it in the past ... in the video the orientation of the plate is being changed .... to what purpose ? the C band probe can be adjusted in relation to the the plate by the the servo motor for getting best signal ... does it benefit the k/u signal to do this ? ... my co rotor worked well in C band on the 1.8 Alcoa dish particularly for linear, with the plate assembly removed.

blademedia,

I think I have a Chaparral C/Ku co-rotor in the loft. If you want to borrow it for a few weeks for testing before you buy one I am happy to post it to you? I will check later this evening and take a picture of it if I can find it.

Couldn't really tell you nelson, nothing springs to mind and iv'e never used that type of Ku pick-up before. On my Co Rotor that i used years ago it had the 20mm or so waveguide tube in the middle of the throat.
It would be interesting to know why he did it though.

Thanks for the reply - John -

Looking at the video again and my own corotor there are no grooves to fit the plate at that second position ? ( see pics ) so i dont know what the idea is ?

... if i get round to tinkering with the co rotor again this spring / summer i will try the different positions and compare ? .... not sure if i had a poor K/u l.n.b. or what, :( (it came with the co rotor) ... but k/u results were poor

I will be tinkering when mine arrives nelson, I don't expect miracles in Ku band I know a single quality feed will blind it, its a trade off tbh.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
TBH, I've not read most of this thread, but if I go back a couple of decades or more (!), the Amstrad 80cm Ku mesh band dishes appeared (in WotSat reviews - I think I still have the pages from the relevant issues!) to work as well as the same brand solid dishes - so, any comments, and does "size matter", ?

PS: if I'm talking thru my "you know where" then don't hesitate to "correct" me (as I am sure you will!) :)

Hi jeallen, we was talking about KU band reception using the chaparral corotor on large 3mtr dish, your input is more than welcome, what you have to remember smaller dishes are made for KU band, most of the older bigger mesh dishes are made for C band.
