What emotion to watch CNN in that early time! The satellite was an old Intelsat V I believe.
In 3 years I got my first dish. Looking into that position I was happy to find CNN again, and do you remember the EBU feed from New York? When unused it was a 24/7 testcard, but many contributions from the USA to Europe was broadcasted through that frequency. Fantastic. And gone.
 
Wasn't BBC Prime and TV1000 Cinema originally on 27.5 west in the old analogue days (in D2 MAC)?

Indeed, Intelsat 904 (incl. 6.0°) left 29.5°W and will be at 27.5°W about 10 days from now.
Probably just to keep the slot for the time being.
 
Inclined 6 degrees - good grief - thats not going to be much use even for feeds! And no MEV's spare to drag it back to zero inclination.

I almost forgot Filmnet wasn't it its original location before moving to Astra?
IIRK when digital tv first started in Holland (around 95/96) the digital versions of Filmnet 1 and 2 appeared on there for a year or so in the clear.
The shop I worked at at the time was selling a lot of 80cm dishes to Dutch expats who didn't want to pay the hefty prices Multichoice was charging for movies at the time.
 
This is from the Kathrein 1992 catalog.
CMT Europe & The Travel Channel came later. I remember receiving the west beam with 1.8m with 80% spikes, no treshold extender at that time (Echostar SR6500). The east beam was powerfull for me with 120 cm delivering spike free picture.

Off-topic to this thread but ... while mentioned ... the Italians acctually started at 18.5W and migrated to 63E on March 7th 1992.

Is there even any need for another sat providing space for feeds, 0.8w/8w/23.5e are pretty empty these days anyway!

Probably yes. Look at 19.2 and 13 east. But there is more than feeds alone. How about transatlantic data connections, telephony.

Made around 1993 @ 2.00 in guy talks about Italian TV on 63 East and gives a demo of some of the other channels around at the time via a large motorized setup.

Yes I remember those days! :)
Since i watched and still watch a lot of Italian TV I also remember RAI Uno, Rai Due and later Rai Tre were on Eutelsat at 10 E before moving to Hotbird. I used to have a motorised system but fixed dishes at 10 E and 63 E.

Of course not - bloody heathen. The IRTE ground stand has three pieces of angle iron on the base, cutting a triangle out of one of them at the just the right point gave/gives another 2 degrees to the floor for the 1.8m Precision reflector, not that it is of much use nowadays.

Intelsat 904 stayed over 3 months at 27.5°W (for slot reservation).
Now moving, and in a few days will arrive at 31.5°W, that is already occupied by Intelsat 25 and Intelsat 28 (31.7°W).
