50E Turksat 4B

For example Intelsat 28 @ 32.8 launched 2011 with 16 Ku band transponders only one in use,
Intelsat 25 providing back up @ 31.5 west,
Intelsat 16 on standby @ 76.2 west,
Intelsat 30 on standby @ 95 west.
Can I ask why?
These birds aren´t cheap to build, plus the cost of chucking them up there, why?

Back up capacity,
being off air is very expensive as Eutelsat found out with 16 east a few years ago & Amos @ 17 east has no back up at all after the satellite failed last year leading to lost revenue.

That I can understand, but 4 birds for one transponder?
Riddle me this, riddle me that...............

11580 V 30000 1/2 DVB-S, is being switched on right now.
That one lasted only a few hours.

Right now: 10972 V (data)

It is still there.I get turksat tanitum at 10.5dB.on the 100cm Dish.

Ive split these reception posts off the launch& testing thread.

Anyway - its very cold here this morning and Ive managed to lock Turksat Tanitim with a decent signal.

11472H 2960

Handy for when the next door Belintersat comes on air :)

EDIT - offset lnb on 1.1m dish aimed at 46E

A blind scan has picked up the Turkmensat channels at 52.5E :D

Lost Turksat Tanitim again :( The cheap lnb may be drifting now the sun has got onto it - the Turkmen channels are horribly unstable too.

The promo channel signal is very weak even in Turkey. It is lost and after a few minutes the signal reappears and then it is lost again. I get very strong signals from Afghansat with a multifeed system with 57 degrees east in the center with Triax 110, but cannot get stable signal from Turkat Promo. The signal may be weakened intentioanlly because the previous signal level for the promo channel(when it was on 11.595 V) was very strong.

DSCN1270[1].webp Good signal here with my 88cm mesh dish with no bleed over from other satellites close by.
