6 LNBs and only 2x 4-way Diseqc switches - How?

I have an odd question (perhaps!) to ask.

I have two dishes. On dish 1 have 3 lnbs on a multiblock bracket, going through a 4-way Diseqc switch to the receiver. It works well.

Dish 2 was on a motor which has packed up, and rather than replace it I'm going to put another couple of LNBs on it - I have a couple of old spare LNBs, a 4-way switch and a small multi bracket, so it'll not cost anything.

Problem is that if I do this, I'll have feeds from 6 LNBs, but only 2x 4-way switches. Is there any way of getting all 6 feeds to the receiver using the 2x 4-ways, or will I need a bigger switch, perhaps an 8-way? I'm having a little difficulty finding one which doesn't have to be sent from China or Hong Kong, and those I have seen seem to have a bigger insertion loss than the 4-ways.

Thanks.

its stange that you only have a chines made diseqe
dont you have a sat store selling SPAUN or ATEC product
6 years ago i used SPAUN switch i think its F411 with dreambox 600 copy
it conects 2 diseqe c unit together to one output to dreambox
the two diseq was cheap unreliabel chinies made only 1 $ each
but it wored with no big proplems
later i tried 1 X 8 ATEC diseqe c
there was loss in signal on week transporder on ASTRA 1
now i use 1 X 16 diseqe c ATEC with VU+ DUO
the signal is better and more stabel much of the day
the 1X16 diseqec is much more expinsive than 1X8 in egypt
i think it must be the same in UK
i am realy not in a position to advice you . its completly difrent in egypt
but i think if you in the sat coverage beam you do not need an expensive diseqe . any brand will do fine
if you try to recive a week signal or you are far from the sat beam thin you have to conseder the other options .
you might not beneft from my reply becuse of the loction and the qualaty of goods in europ compared with what we have in egypt

You need a two way uncommitted switch to connect between the two 4 way diseqc 1.0 switches.

Or you could just get an 8 way diseqc 1.1 switch, I used a couple recently, emp centauri, that I got from radtv, one of the site sponsors.

Lads I know this is a different question but can you split a fixed dish and diseqc motor into one cable. And can I use a switch and how would it work cuz my big dish is fixed at 1west and and and then I have a triax and motor doing the rest

Hi Robbo

Does this mean taking the output from each switch into a 2-way uncommited switch, and how do I find one of these beasts? :confused

Might just be easier (and probably more expensive!) to go with the 8-way.

Thanks.

I'd go down the multiport diseq 1.1 switch route ..
Assuming you can find an uncomitted 2 way switch ...you'll end up paying almost ..if not as much ...as one of these :-

Gecen GD-81A 8x1 DiSEqC1.1 Satellite FTA TV LNB Switch

Cheap enough at about £11 including postage ..and they work just fine ..passing motor control ...or fixed diseqc commands..

Now that is cheap, pity about the possible 4 week wait for it though, but still very good value. Not had chance to check whether motor commands would pass though the emp-centauri one, I must give it a go, i have one in my van somewhere.

Hi Robbo
Well ...the Gaecen ...definately passes usals diseqc 1.3 ...and vbox diseqc 1.2 commands ...and the insertion loss isn't bad either ..
I use one in my system ...the only thing is ..to make sure the receiver supports disqec 1.1 first ...or its a waste of dosh ..

Yea, was just trying to get away with what I had already but £11 won't break the bank - just ordered one. It's the wait that gets me! ;)

So what exactly is an uncommitted 2-way switch? I'm thinking it's just a 2 into 1 switch but am probably wrong. And would a receiver need to specifically support it? I'm using a Technomate TM5200.

Its a bit like a 2 port diseqc switch ...but is uncommited ..ie the receiver addresses and switches it first ..then passes on to switch either the left hand 4 port diseqc switch ..or right hand one ..

Operating much like a manual A/B switch ...only under receiver menu control.

Important that you first checked that your receiver supports disqc 1.1 (multiport switches) ....or you _will_ be very dissappointed

..not knowing the receiver ..I can't comment..

Yep it does support disqc 1.1 (and 1.0). What would I Google to find one of these?

Sorry for the questions - this is a fairly new area for me.

Thanks

Just google Diseqc uncomitted switch ....but you've already ordered one ?....so why go try and find a 2 port ...now you have ordered an 8 ?.....
..The more switches you chain ..the greater the losses ..
Better to go with the single 8 port switch.

An 8 way switch ishould be plenty, as you can add 4 way 1.0 diseqcs to each input, giving you a total of 32 inputs.
Have done it to 1 port of the emp. Receiver must support 1.0 and 1.1 diseqc.

Can't ever see me needing more than 8. Unless I learn Arabic and German! ;)
