Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations on how to add support to my existing quad LNB sky dish so I can view Satellite channels on Astra 19.2 as well. I am looking for a cost effective solution please so changing dish, motorised etc is out of the question.
If possible I am thinking about adding a multi LNB mount , mounting existing Sky LNB (only using 1 cable) and buying another LNB (using one of the other cables going into house). Would this work ? If so could you recommend the parts needed please ?
Inside the house, the TV only has 1 Sat port, guess I need another cheapo receiver for 19.2? Or is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance.

What is the model number of the TV? There may be an option in the menus to enable the use of a DiSEqC switch. Cheapest way of attaching a second LNB is zip ties and whatever you can find to provide the correct spacing. What is the diameter of the neck on the quad LNB? Some Sky LNBs are easier to attach brackets to than others.

A second hand dish is always a cost effective solution.

Keep 19E completely separate from the existing system with the exception of poaching one cable from the LNB.

TV supports Disecq, just checked. So I ordered another LNB and a Diseqq switch. My understanding is that it needs to go to the right of Sky LNB when looking at dish. Is the angle etc all the same, easy to find 19.2 or will I need meter etc.

When looking towards the face of the dish the 19.2°E LNB will be to the right and slightly lower. If there are any signal strength indicators on the TV you can use them, a basic sat beeper will be quicker.

Thanks very much. I will give it a go tomorrow.

TV has a signal display for Satellites. So gave it a go today. Attached it and moved it by hand to the right of the 28.2 LNB, slightly tilting it down etc. Not managed to get a signal. Ordered a multi LNB mount off ebay so I can be a bit more precise when it arrives. Trying to avoid buying a Sat meter. Looking at photos and also how far you need to move dish to right to get 19.2 I can't be that far off.

You can buy a cheap satellite meter for around £6, and they're very useful.

You might find one in your local DIY stores, I've even seen them in big supermarkets.
They are easy to use, as they light up, if everyhting is connected correctly, and working, and you can get a signal by turning the knob, or pressing a button, (depends on your meter), to increase the sensitivity, until the meter reads about 5, you then manoever the dish/LNB, to increase the signal strength, to maximum, decrease the sensitivity, by turning the knob, to get it back to 5, then continue until you get the best signal quality possible.
You then try a scan, on your receiver, to see what channels, you can get, to ascertain the satellite, you're picking up, and checking the signal quality readings.

The main issue there is with those meters Mickha mentions is that they can't tell you what satellite position you're pointing at - only to indicate that you're receiving a signal from somewhere! However, once you are certain that your dish/LNB is aligned on the right satellite position, they are very good for "peaking" reception due to their analogue nature where you can increase or decrease the sensitivity of the meter by a simple turn of the knob against the needle display.

(There would also be issues in cases where raw signal strength isn't the main thing you're after e.g. receiving Badr4 signals at 26E in the face of strong co-channel signals from the Astra 2 satellites at 28E, where quite often nudging the dish slightly west of 26E e.g. 25.7E, could help improve the signal quality of the wanted Badr4 signals - but that's not really relevant here.)

Guys it's finally done and working. Not a professional finish but it works. Got 2 new LNB's and the mounting bracket + Disecq. Cost approx £30.

Astra 28.2 and 19.2 now on same LG TV.

Thanks for all the help.

What you have done is a shame.
No one should do the same thing !

It has been done for my elderly father who is visiting from Germany over Christmas and doesn't speak English. I live in rented accommodation and don't have the liberty to just erect another dish or buy a larger motorised one. My apologies if this goes against your elitist standards. But perhaps in future, if you have nothing positive to contribute to a conversation, just keep quiet.

I advise that you don't view other members installations, if you think this is a shame, or you might lose your mind:)

Yes exactly, I reach the point of 'it works' and then never touch it again, it looks like a total dogs dinner, this is normal!
