According to one of the lads on the DS forum an Astra 1N "2C band" frequency has appeared in the Network Tables.

So it looks like the first frequency to be activated will be

11126H (*)
23000
QPSK
FEC 8/9

Which means its almost certainly going to be an HD tp using DVB-S2 (thats what the BBC HD tp is currently using).

* 11126 is more likely to be a V frequency not an H.

Nothing new across that band according to my scan. Is your source reliable AS?

Hes been ok in the past. As its only new in the NIT it might be a 2-3 of days before its powered up. Its reported in public on the DS forum so Im not betraying any confidences.

A second frequency to keep an eye on is 10964H, also QSPK 23000 8/9.

Only seen 1 report for this one and I dont know how reliable this source is.

Ah yes, it's shown as 11127 in the NIT.

I can confirm that:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Astra_Eurobird_28.2_E_10846_V>
<TransportstreamID Value="2068" Name="11127 MHz">
<OriginalNetworkID Value="2"/>
<Descriptor HValue="0x43" Name="Satellite Delivery System">
<DescriptorLength Value="11"/>
<Frequency Value="11127" Unit="MHz"/>
<OrbitalPosition FValue="28.2" Unit="°"/>
<WestEastFlag Value="1" Name="East"/>
<Polarisation Value="0" Name="Linear Horizontal"/>
<ModulationSystem Value="1" Name="DVB-S2"/>
<RollOff Value="1" Name="a = 0.25"/>
<Modulation Value="1" Name="QPSK"/>
<Symbolrate Value="23000"/>
<FECInner Value="6" Name="8/9"/>
</Descriptor>
</TransportstreamID>
</Astra_Eurobird_28.2_E_10846_V>

this is from NIT PID of BBC HD transponder. So it is worth monitoring that QRG.

Cheers Llew & Pietclock :) Good to have some independent confirmation - and that its going to be a DVB-S2 frequency.

Its also going to be fascinating to see what sorts of power levels are, which beam is in use, and if its the spot how many of our foreign friends can see it.

it will be Channel4 HD I guess. "Educated" rumours have it, that they will be the first ones to move from their interim frequency on Eurobird. 12.5-12.75 is "owned" by Eutelsat, so a frequency change is necessary.

Looks like my Channel 4 HD days are a numbered. Been enjoying it on my 80cm dish in Finland.

I wish they'd switch on some transponders so we can see that this new bird is like, the suspense is killing me.

Have a look in that NIT table for 10874? H 23000 8/9.

Yes I rather think you are right - we know C4HD will be active by the end of the month so that would certainly make sense.

It's highly unlikely I'll be able to pick it up with my 180cm Prime Focus dish. So far I can still easily watch all V transponders from Astra 2D. Tension rises day in day out...

Okay lets speculate a bit more. Comparing with other positions and guessing the frequencies could look like this:

10964 H ----23000 8/9 S2
10979 V
10995 H
11009 V
11023 H
11038 V
11053 H
11068 V
11082 H
11097 V
11112 H
11127 V -----23000 8/9 S2
11141 H
11156 V
11171 H
11186 V

Maybe the guys with deeper knowledge could correct these?

Impossible to say until we know more - and remember not all these frequencies will be lit up to begin with. However extrapolating from what we know of the frequency plans used at 28E & 19E:

If they turn out to be SD frequencies they will be 22000 5/6.

HD frequencies could be 23000 8/9 S2 or 29500 3/4 S2 or 22000 5/6 in DVBS or 27500 3/4 S2.

Or a hybrid SD/HD with 27500 2/3 using DVBS!!!!

Nothing there for that frequency Huevos. Just the existing 10877V.

Not sure if 15MHz is consistently the "in-thing" re. spacing of TP centre frequencies .............. don't they tend to vary a little, perhaps up to 20MHz or so?

From an SES factsheet:

ASTRA 2 Satellites (28.2ºE)
In the frequency ranges 10.70 to 11.70 GHz [...] channel spacing is 29.5 MHz between co-polarised channels (14.75 between cross-polarised channels). The nominal -1dB bandwidth of each channels is 26 MHz.

Well if the bandwidth is 26 MHz (and you need a bit of guard band between transponders as well) you can only have symbol rates lower than this figure. So the only feasible ones mentioned are 22.000 Mbps and 23.000 Mbps.

The band plan image is from the same factsheet.

Fair enough :D The more esotoric information about the transponders has always made my head spin :D

So are you implying that when a channel moves to 1N from a frequency that is going to be decommissioned on one of the other birds it will adopt the same frequency? That would mean there couldn't be a period of dual illumination for testing.
