Astra 1N @ 28E - about to go on air / on air!!

woke up this morning no singnal checked kingofsat astra 2d was gone over to 1n so i was bit concerned but then i found out it was raining alot hehe

In Amman Jordan, Using 3.4m mesh dish I have noticed that some Eurobird signals go stronger on the astra 28.2 position which was not possible before

Does seem odd both these sites are claiming the 2D services have migrated over? People however are assuming the 1N spot is going to be tighter than that of 2D's, in fact it's most likely identical if not slightly wider so if this change has occurred then I very much doubt the Expats would have noticed much in the way of changes.

If SES want to open up the lower ku spectrum at, say, 31.5E or 2E then it would make sense to move 2D considering it's officially only got a year left of it's original 'life' left in DTH service. Moving it to, say, 2E would open up more SNG capacity at this slot, who knows??

The problem in the Satellite broadcasting world is that they are all so secretive and it's not just SES who fall in to this position, Eutelsat are the same! Hopefully AS can clear some of this up but his contact, or AS, may be sworn to secrecy!

this is to confirm that NO ASTRA 2D transponders has been transferred to ASTRA 1N.

C4 and ITV will start on 1N in the coming days. This will be completely transparent to consumers as there will be no change in frequencies.

Someone on Ds has reported getting an answer from SES which states that no services have been transferred yet but itv and channel 4 will move over in the next few days

I am sure even AS's contact won't blurt out all the minute details. That person will know that any info they provide will end up everywhere on the Internet... but if we're lucky maybe we will at least get an answer as to whether or not a switchover from 2D to 1N has taken place. I mean, that is a yes-or-no question, at least theoretically you could answer it without giving away too many company secrets... and risking your job...

But they will probably just regurgitate the uncommunicative official SES press statement saying that 1N "has begun commercial service to provide backup capacity for 2D, blah blah blah..." )(-red

Though it's not clear how would C4 HD move to 1N without frequency change as it's currently on Eurobird

Maybe the ITV and C4 transponders are the SD ones currently on 2A? The 'no change in frequencies' would relate to this, obviously ITV's HD transponder along with that of C4's will be on new frequencies.

I suspect that that will move in due course and will change frequency as well. As others have said above, I reckon it'll be the SD C4 that moves without changing frequency.

If visibility really drops entirely:

1. I'm going to try larger dishes (we are moving to a new location later this year that provides so much space that I can make it look like 'Raisting'

2. If this fails there's still the Freesat over Sky option, isn't it.

In fact, the whole situation regarding spot beams, encryption etc. is most embaressing within Europe.)(-red
