I was only joking Analoguesat. In fact, I am quite looking forward to the start of the test transmissions and seeing what we can pull in here (if anything) :)

Its been a long time since we had a new bird at 28E. The forum will be fascinating for a long time when she goes into service, and Im really looking forward to all the reception reports (good or bad) from our distant members :)

The SES facebook page has been interesting - an Israeli lad is not happy about the new spotbeams coming to 28E - he keeps demanding SES put the UK PSB channels on widebeams so he can watch them :D

You may include me in the not-so-happy list! :D No, I don't really care about the UK PSB channels, I would prefer Astra 1N to be placed at 19.2E, on its original position... :)

Splendid - thanks for the clip.

The French chappie seemed to be three or four seconds ahead of the official clock: presumably some sort of streaming issue rather than over-excitement?

Give SES a chance :D. It will be mid week before the solar panels are deployed, and there are 4 more onboard burns to put the bird into geostationary orbit - the Arianes only get them into GTO - Geostationary Transfer Orbit.

And it'll be at least a month before shes operational - according to last nights broadcast Astra are looking at "mid September" for the new bird to be in service. The rf downlink power is rated at 130w so thats HUGE!

Probably adjusted for 28.2E, I guess when Astra 1N moves to its original geostationary position at 19.2E the two paneuropean beams will move eastwards and southwards.

Oh yes. I forgot about that aspect of things. To be honest I thought that on its "interim mission" only the UK spot beam capacity was going to be used.

It may well be unless SES want to reduce the electrical loadings on 2A & 2B by a few hundred watts to protect them by switching two or three tp's off each of the older birds

vtm22 (usually well informed) from Israel says (link) that 12441v and 11954h will be moved to Astra 1N when regular transmissions start. Also the ITV channels...

I reckon the C5 tp will be moved as well so 5* / 5USA can join Freesat.
