The SES facebook page has been interesting - an Israeli lad is not happy about the new spotbeams coming to 28E - he keeps demanding SES put the UK PSB channels on widebeams so he can watch them :D

I see you two are still at it! :D

Pan Europe 1 beam looks very interesting for Latvia. Will see if it will be catchable with 110cm dish. As of UK beam - no chance. Pan Europe 2 - no problems.

According to the SES launch report video for Astra 1N ( -http://goo.gl/TBwDd ), there will be another four ASTRA launches by January 2012.

Exactly - doesn't tally with the comment in the video does it?

If they were referring to SES birds for SES-Worldskies rather than SES-Astra then the info would be about right - they have several new birds going up in the not too distant future.

Actually it does. There more satellites under the SES Astra brand than plain "Astra's". SES-2, SES-4, QuetzSat 1 and Astra 4B, are all scheduled for launch within 2011.

The tracking sites are pretty meaningless whilst the new birds are attaining geostationary orbit - they arent designed to cope with satellites that change direction or altitude :D

Hi AS, I didn't use a tracking site, I used my own software. n2yo dot com seems well behind the satellite. And anyway it is already as good as geostationary, semi major axis is 42,052km at the moment, just 6 minutes a day from being fully in sync.

TLE's are from Celestrak under new launches so the data is updated pretty frequently, normally every few hours.

Also, I can see it in the same place on my Android phone using the Satellites AR app, also under new launches.

According to tracking sites,Astra 1N should be close to its designated testing slot. Blind scan receivers equipped people should get ready to search for some testing signals

This one for starters

However folks please dont treat these tracking sites as gospel truth. They often arent updated every day and their information is pretty meaningless when satellites are being manoeuvred by their ground stations.

Sites like n2yo work brilliantly for drifting satellites where their position can be predicted weeks or months in advance. A soon as a bird fires its onboard motors then its positional data is basically wrong until the tle's are updated.

(tle = two line elements, data files used for tracking purposes)

I have been downloading the latest TLEs everyday. Just did it a couple of hours ago. TLE data was completely new. Satellite is still doing what I said in post #349. Right now it is between 2ºE and 3ºE. n2yo is wrong because it is giving the period as 1174 when in fact it is 1430 minutes.

Nothing there for me right now with the spectrum except a bit of spill from 1ºW.
