Astra 2G Launch PG.jpg Astra 2G | Mission Success!
December 28, 2014 1:54 am (GMT)
ILS Communications Team
We have had a successful mission with the Proton M Breeze M rocket, carrying the Astra 2G satellite built by Airbus. We have confirmation that the satellite separated from the vehicle on schedule at 1:49 a.m. EST, or 06:49 GMT, approximately 9 hours and 12 minutes after liftoff.

Everything occurred as planned with ignition, shutdown and separation of the Proton’s first three stages. Then the Breeze M upper stage with the satellite continued the mission, igniting five times, and then releasing the satellite into transfer orbit.

Astra 2G will now test @ 43.5 east see link in post #209 for feedback.

Followed the launch. Can only vaguely imagine the knowledge and skills such a project needs. Immense achievement(s).

Hmm... something interesting :)
English version: http://tass.ru/en/non-political/769637
But in Russian version http://tass.ru/kosmos/1676585 I saw some more text:
"However, according to the data of the satellite launch sequence diagrams published on the official website of the Khrunichev Center, "Breeze-M" immediately brought satellite in his broadcast position - 28.2 degrees."
It's a mistake or not?
I'm not a specialist in this digits:

P.S.
I think this is a mistake.

Yes, it must be a mistake. It wouldn't happen that quickly and it needs to be tested away from interference from other satellites.

Now I do miss the dislike button. The Eutelsat 28A has still got enough power left?

Now I do miss the dislike button. The Eutelsat 28A has still got enough power left?

Last time I checked the end of geostationary use for Eutelsat 28A was 2013 http://www.flysat.com/e28a-info.php

Very optimistic if they think E28A will last another 6 months when it was due to be replaced by March 2013,

Transponder power levels have gone down considerably over the last 18 months & the number of active transponders is now less than 1/2 due to the SES agreement on 28.5 east had this not come into effect Eutelsat would have had to build a new satellite for this slot,

But now all of the ku band with be used by SES with 2E,2F & 2G from June 2015 if E28A & astra 2A is even older launched 30th august 1998 with a life expectancy of 15 years that has also expired last year,

Maybe some other satellites may be move here while 2G completes it's X-Band mission at 43.5 east if the mission runs beyond 1st Qtr 2015 as domestic services will be compromised @ 28.2 east.

Don't forget 2C is still pretty empty apart from a couple of data transponders. That could help take some capacity if needed in an emergency but it would mean a bit of juggling of transponders due to 2C's limited transmission capabilities.
