After not viewing any British Television, for a great many years, I was forced to view some, as I wasn't home, but looking after my parents house, and unfortunately I quickly noticed all the programmes that had been edited.

The first was an episode of Friends, where the Rachel character, who was pregnant, used the phrase horny bitch, which was edited out, then in an old film, Splash, they edited out the scene showing Daryl Hannah's bottom, in the statue of liberty scene.
When I got home I was curious how far this censorship went, so last night I watched part of Radio Days, on Talking Pictures, only to notice that once again they edited out a brief shot of a female bottom, then this morning, in the Two Ronnies, where they again edited out Madeline Smith's, brief nudity.

As I haven't viewed British television, for over 20 years, which explains my old references, is this now the norm, that any, and all Female, nudity, including the naked bottom, are edited out, and is this the same for male nudity?

Perhaps others can post examples of edited films, and television series.

I did notice that the lyrics to A fairytale in New York, also appears to have been edited, changing the lyrics, from "You cheap lousy faggot, to you're cheap and you're haggard, blanking out the lines, or sometimes playing the full version.

A lot of viewers, or listeners, of British televsion, and radio listeners, might never know of this editing policy, as they've never viewed, or listened, to original versions of films, television programmes, or songs, so have no reason to complain about this policy.

The issue with Friends (and other programs) is that most were shown after the watershed of the day, so it was OK. Nowadays, all this stuff is being shown during day time and god forbid that anyone gets offended if they see a glimpse of the bottom.....

TV shows get cancelled all the time due to low ratings etc. I do not think this is much different. Many people today (not everyone, but many) would not probably not watch TV shows say where characters are called a faggot if they have mature content/mature content friends etc. Then you have the whole scandal were women were forced to do nude scenes, there was even a story about someone being raped on set, again a lot of people probably wouldn't watch those.

All that the studios/TV companies have done is keep things relevant to the majority of the audience today.

Its not just nudity that offends the woke generation. All the peripheral drugs references in the Nickelback song Rockstar get blanked out on Planet Rock. This has only started fairly recently & as far as Im concerned either play the bloody song in full or if you think its offensive in a daytime timeslot dont play it at all.

And Im well narked Planet Rock has been pulled off 0110 on Sky - its not on DAB round here, i refuse point blank to have any form of smart speaker in the house & having it playing via computer all day is not really viable.

You will find most, if not all of the Britbox offerings have been edited to the Nth degree so as to not offend. That is if you can find the series you may remember from your youth.

Nudity is only the start, stereotypes will have been given the heave-ho entirely. Try finding 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum', Alf Garnett or Benny Hill on a UK screen these days.

Indeed. This is where those old DVD and VHS box sets start coming back into fashion.

They do the same with cartoons, like my favourite Tom and Jerry from 1940s and 50s. Plenty of potential to offend from that era and difficult to find uncut versions even on DVDs. Takes a lot of trawling on download sites to find the originals.

What is needed is some immuno-therapy.

Perhaps people can start with a low dose:
(or even better one of the episodes where he makes good use of his hands: one for holding a glass of Whisky and the
other for smoking).

Then some Coupling, some Montey Peyton, some Black Adder, and some Kenny Evereth (you know, the
ones done in the best possible taste).

To end (the highest dose), Dutch TV may be useful, e.g., Sjef Van Oekel's Discohoek,
or the truly offense TV program, which I have never seen, but which was rumored to almost have kiledl the
broadcaster. It's content was far worse than swearing, racism.... It featured the queen picking or cleaning
sprouts. Such kind of depravity could not be tolerated, not even in the Netherlands...

May be all of this could be included as mandatory in history classes at school. Benny Hill should be reserved
for advanced classes, because in some episodes some basic knowledge of reading is required.

What is happening in England? First Brexit and now this... This once great nation is going down the drain. Maybe it is
a delayed effect of all these French genes...

I tend to watch ONS, on 23.5E, for full episodes of Bergerac, and other classic television.
Are Carry on films still shown on British Television, and are they edited?

Or "Love Thy Neighbour". Incidentally, the new neighbour always came out on top, before anyone starts.

"Ain't Half Hot Mum", I doubt Windsor Davis could get away with calling someone "a little poofter" anymore.

"Ooh matron!" Carry on films, not sure if they're still shown. Same as OP, there's nothing of interest to me at 28.2e.

I must say that hearing and watching such things as a kid, has not turned me into a homophobic racist who chases scantily clad ladies in circles around trees whilst being persued by the police.

Swearing in songs, no idea why the artist's work must be vandalised. They wouldn't do it to a painting.

UK is weird like that, I spend a lot of time in Denmark where at 06.00 you can hear various rappers swearing on the breakfast show. No one bats an eyelid.

Germany has some FTA music channels, including a rap channel, where the songs, and videos, are used to be aired uncensored.
Personally I generally download my rap videos off Youtube.
I wonder how long it will be before every television/radio channel, in the UK, is completely censored, at all times of the day?
Hopefully, they can't ban us access, to the internet, and uncensored content.

I was given the full collection, of Carry On films, on DVD, as they were provided, by some newspaper, years ago, free for every reader.

There are plans in progress to make it more difficult for kids to access social media, it will fail since the platforms naturally thrive on subscribers.
I have found it more difficult to find uncensored orignals on YouTube in the past year.

Interestingly this was in the news yesterday

BBC3 was the channel specifically created to take on Channel 4 in terms of 'edgy' content. Some personalities of the time have been backpedalling for a while to retain their, usually Stateside status.

good thing that Little Britain is at last back after all these years...i had put it on DVD's in EMule days... still enjoying it !
I expected re-runs to come faster,at least during Holidays period.
We have "le Père Noël est une ordure" a 1980-ish film that 's about equivalent & everyone knows it,it comes round every December on mainstream tv...no probs ,with multiple channels,no-one complains!
Here's a "best of"

Little Britain was always on the edge of being offensive at times but is now a cult classic. And still (somewhat, sadly) relevant today.

I quite enjoyed Come Fly with Me as well, though it's more "mainstream".

That one must have been very controversial, because I never heard of it.

It reminds me a bit of "Urbanus van Anus" a Belgian comedian who got quite a bit of criticism, not for his name,
but when impersonating an handicapped person hit by a train. At one point he also was in the news papers, with
a full page detailing how he brutalized his wife. That was on April 1st. :->

I cannot find that video, but here is one of sketches about religion (Belgian style, no translation needed).

"Life of Brian" should of course also be on the list.

And to be fair and inclusive: we should not only make fun of religions (including those with no sense of humour), handicapped
people, women, mature content people, straight people, ... but also the man in the street
