Advice Needed Building a server for Tvheadend.....

Over the last couple of days I have been building a machine from parts I have around here.

Got the machine built, Ubuntu installed, went to plugin in my Sky Star 2 HD pci-e card and found it’s not Linux compatible.

So now I need to find a Linux compatible sat card, I want twin dvb-s2 and twin dvb-t2 inputs.

I don’t mind if I need 2 cards to do this as I have 2 pci-e slots on the mother board.

I have been looking at the tbs 6522 as that has twin sat and Freeview, anyone had experience with these cards?

I can only get T/T2 working with the TBS6522 in Linux Chris (except using DVB apps in a command line)
Maybe worth my trying TV Headend, let us know how you make out with it :)

What Linux version are you using please, as Ubuntu just seems to throw up hurdles every step of the way.

Might have to try another os.

I seem to be struggling to get it to scan in a network.

Did you know there is a third party driver also available.

Mint Linux.

That driver is the one I used.

Try something like w_scan in terminal. At least it shows me that channels will scan in using the S/S2 adaptor 0 frontend 1 of the 6522. Example with my dish on 28.2 -

Code:
david@david-MS-7850 ~ $ w_scan -fs -s S28E2 - o 7
w_scan -fs -s S28E2 - o 7
w_scan version 20141122 (compiled for DVB API 5.10)
using settings for 28.2 east Astra 2A/B/C/D + EuroBird 1 28.5
scan type SATELLITE, channellist 61
output format vdr-2.0
WARNING: could not guess your codepage. Falling back to 'UTF-8'
output charset 'UTF-8', use -C <charset> to override
Info: using DVB adapter auto detection.
    /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 -> "TurboSight TBS 6522 DVB-S/S2/DVB-T/T2/C " doesnt support SATELLITE -> SEARCH NEXT ONE.
    /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend1 -> SATELLITE "Silicon Labs Si2183": very good :-))

Tut tut. I had the wrong cable connected to the LNB in my earlier scan above - going to the TBS6983 instead of the 6522, hence no TPs found.

Better now, all channels locked and identified.

Still only T/T2 channels found with the updatedvb program, will need to check with the guys at Ricks, they've been very helpful in the past.

Put mint on this morning and to be honest I am still struggling with the driver install. I get to the point of make and it keeps failing.

Glad you got it sorted re swapping the cable to the right card. I think I would need to try and mark the face plates so I could identify the correct card.

Switched to the tbs drivers and pleased to report the card is now installed correctly :)

Next stage, tuning the channels in.....

Excellent. Yes, not much room to fiddle around screwing in the plugs. I've wired up the terminals to flying leads marked with their inputs :rolleyes:

Enjoy the card, a decent match to the TBS6983.

Installed plex to run along side tvheadend :D

All I had to do was point to the recordings folder, all finished now.

So far so good.

@Llew or @Lazarus can I use samba and ssh with mint?

As I want to be able to mount the “server” hdd to one of my windows 10 machines.

So I can transfer files between them.

Thanks.:)
