You could always come to Blighty for Christmas, Brian - It's real warm right now (albeit gloomy and damp) and promises to remain so.

Best of both worlds - cr*p TV and cr*p weather.

And cr*p food.

I think I´ll stick with the sun, ambient temperature and my cooking! Thanks for the invite though..........
Also, I still have those J-clothes for you ( if you remember my bad days! )

Is C5 HD going FTA?

HD channel (scrambled) on 10964H with label "7750".

Wishful thinking like all HD ITV-2,3 & 4 + all the other FreeSat SD channels with HD variants Film-4 Ch-5 ect on $ky they are all tied to contracts with Rupert to be encrypted :(

That is a different case. Here the HD channel has been squeezed onto an already heavily populated transponder. Bitrate of some of the SD channels is now below 2Mbps which means unwatchable on any reasonable sized television set. Just checked a minute ago and C5 +24 had a bitrate of 1.1Mbps.

I used to have multiple ch5´s but when I looked they came up with service error. Rescan has removed them, only seeing one ch5 now and the encrypted 7750. Maybe they have made some space

Yup - all the advertising regions have been removed - its believed C5 will be using the smartad capabilities of the box where local ads are downloaded onto the reserved portion of the hard drive & played out at the appropriate point

Is this the new $ly Q box? Will the older HD+ boxes also be persuaded to do this? Without a hard disc I can't see the standalone HD box doing this though.

Will Freesat+ boxes be able to do this if and when C5HD goes FTA?

No idea exactly how smartads work. However I understand they are cached locally on the hdd so none hard drive boxes can only get the "live" adverts from whichever is the master region (London??)

As for whats capable on Freesat boxes no idea.

If C5HD does go on to the Freeview platform then they've long since lost their natural position at 105
A new thought occurs. They could go on 105 when BBC3 leaves the airwaves to go on-line only.

Is that really going to happen? Or is it going to be another BBC u-turn.

There are a LOT more cuts coming over the next few years - the sports coverage will be decimated for starters. BBC4 will disappear or be merged with BBC2. Some of the digital only radio stations will be axed or sold off. BBC News will be merged with BBC News Worldwide

etc etc

Mixed feelings here - BBC is still an excellent resource, but it can't be denied it has sprawled over the years.

We UK Resident Licence Holders get considerable bang for our buck.

Looks like the beginning of the end for the BBC. We all know what happens to businesses that "downsize" to become "more efficient".
