Max.max, I see you are in Rome like me and have a pretty big dish. Are you able to pick up the default transponder 11778V with your 130cm dish? I'm getting desperate in trying to activate my card and one of the suggested causes was that I cannot receive the signal from 11778V. If you do, then I will have to upgrade my 85cm.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, the same questions is "Do you hear sound on the EPG?".
I would have sent you a PM or email but it is not enabled. As our friend makum101, I wouldn't want to spend money upgrading my system if it is worthless.
Thank you.
dear tintoria1 (by the way, have you got a drycleaning shop?), the answer is unfortunately very easy : you can forget the default trasponder and the EPG nice little music with 85cm down here. I struggle to get it with 130cm. If it's cloudy somewere between here and Sudan, the signal goes from very weak to non existing. I tried the other default frequency (don't have with me now, but I'm sure someone else will post it) with no luck. In this area, the 125-130cm WAS (until 2 years ago, when the satellite was working fine) the minimum size to get the signal. Now you get it only with clear blue sky all the way down south of italy, mediterrean and half of africa. At least with that crapper that sky provides for its customers calling it digibox (probably a shoebox has a better signal/noise figure). The only good use for it would be adding a flush and wooden seat and placing it in the toilette. I have tried with 150cm (the maximum i can fit on my property terrace without going on the buidling roof) but the signal improvement was not worth the price. To get a good improvement down here you get 180cm, not a monster dish but still big enough. An improvement on 2A and B, of course while D remains out of reach (need 240 for that).
Now, in order to activate your card in your digibox you'll certainly need a bigger dish. it's mandatory also if you want to watch skyuk (partially) properly without getting upset everytime it's cloudy.
As i said. I am now quite happy with what I get by using another receiver with the dragoncam and BBC prime from hot bird 13E (stand alone and/or in sky italia package). Also on skyitalia you get some classic and new british comedy on channel Jimmy (things like Ali G).
