My Satellite Setup
1,8 Channel Master, Black Pro LNB with CM feedhorn for 28 E which is my main interest when watching TV. VU+ DUO 4K SE, VU+ DUO 2, Octagon SF8008 and Vantage 8000 S and TS receivers. Fixed dishes at: 42 E (0,75 m), 28,2/28,5 E (1,8 m), 19,2 E (1,5 m), 13 E (1,1 m), 9 E (0,7 m), 5 E (1,2 m) and 1 W (0,7 m).

Thanks for the info. Maybe my 1.80 dish won't be big enough in the future. From what I read HD transponders seem to have a weaker signal - I will have to update my receiver anyway if they switch off SD.
Should have added that BBC will remain in SD on 12 422 H until april 2024. That is the current plan at least.

The problem when switching to HD is the use of DVB-S2 and 8PSK (instead of QPSK) which requires a stronger signal for stable reception.
Ok, I will bear that in mind.

You will need to do a rescan - all the residual SD BBC services are moving to 12422H & the existing SD transponders are being reconfigured for DVB-S2 8PSK. If you are using an SD only receiver you will have already lost 10818V.

Hwever the residual "Nightlight" services will close in April 2024

Thanks for that. I will have to get an HD receiver before then - from the UK I presume?

Depends if you want a SkyUK receiver or a generic one. Generic fta receivers can be found in many retailers, Sky boxes are probably easier to obtian in the UK although there are assorted expat resellers. Sky+HD boxes are no longer obtainable newe - Sky Q is the new big thing - & they need an lnb change.

Be aware that HD transmissions need considerably more signal than SD so if your signals are alreadty marginal you will need a dish/lnb/cabling upgrade

Thanks for your advice. The signal is ok in the winter 24/7 - not so strong in summer during the evening.

Do you have a smart TV with a satellite tuner? My LG is doing a pretty good job. Gets some BBC HD here on the fringe.

My smart TV is pretty basic so not worth the bother. I expect LG is far more superior.

Actually I never knew you could get a TV with a satellite tuner - it seems LG is the only make that have them from what I've found online.

My brother has a Philips with built in sat tuner (which he doesn't use but it is there).

I would suggest to check wire and change the box to a new one with a good turner

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
From my own experience with older Toshiba TV's and the current LG (2-3 yrs old) with Sat tuners, I personally cannot recommend them - difficult to set up (poor instructions apart from anything else) and with fiddly controls in use. Separate boxes are a much better approach!

Adjustments have apparently been made and now is 11306 H as strong as 11306 V and 11344 H/V. Well done Channel 5 (and/or Astra)!

Here the same - nada.
Checked it on all my receivers now and there is quite a difference on all three receivers so it's not related to a specific recevier.

11306 H used to be around 9,5 - 9,7 db. 11306 V, 11344 H/V used to be and still are around 10,9 - 11,1 dB.

Now is 11306 H at the same level as the others. Checking it now and it is at 11,0 dB.
