Lovely shots from Dubai. The director on talkback seemed to be getting quite heated on the shots though :D

If anyone is planning to head to Turkey next, I'd personally avoid the main TRT channels as they do not change their programming. I caught fireworks on CNN Turk last year (42E) but I'd be surprised if TRT World don't show anything.

Tried Kurdistan 24 but it was very wet and the only fireworks were in the background. Then they went to Dubai!

So. Onwards to 2100 GMT. As usual I'll spend it with usual suspects in the Middle East.

Sharqiya HD on Hotbird seems to be running NYE coverage, currently live from Baghdad. Last I checked they were reviewing Burj Khalifa fireworks. IMN(labeled as Iraqiya News) is having a talk programme. I saw split screens to Baghdad and Mosul earlier.

Now it is a tad odd to hear Christmas songs but then again in churches following the Julian calendar the Christmas is yet to come.

Here's a quick Arabic reference for main cities:
Baghdad - بغداد
Mosul - الموصل
Erbil - اربيل

Kurdish channels also appear to be active.

Rudaw also went to Dubai than back to the studio build up. Despite all the earlier background fireworks over the last several hours it looks like they might deliver the big one soon. There was a great animation of a satellite dish which has made up for the last two hours of aimless channel hopping. And they had been pretending to be in HD for years, they are now in 1080.

By the way, in Dubai light show the Gulf states' row with Qatar(which has kind of become the new Voldemort - even in sports the country is edited out from logos and called simply "a neighbouring nation") manifested itself - at one point flags of GCC countries appeared except for Qatar.

On Iraqiya they just squeezed a view from Basra(البصرة) between two views from Baghdad. Baghdad also had quite a bit of fireworks. By the way - doing breaking news about New Year isn't just a Sky News thing - IMN/Iraqiya is currently running a breaking news banner with "Baghdad lets go of 2017 and receives 2018"

Turkey had fireworks but some channels (CNN Turk, TRT Haber) opted not to show them due to it being the 1 year anniversary of last year's NYE attacks. I managed to catch them on NTV.

1TV Russia seemed to stick to Putin and the clock tower.

ETV(visible online) showing concert in Tallinn, currently Anne Veski performing. There will be president's speech at 2145 GMT, which this time will be live as opposed to pre-recorded. And probably this year Estonia will be broadcasting live at midnight.

For once Rubbish Today has delivered, ironically in this centenary year. (I even read this book ISBN-13: 978-0099592426)

Rudaw had fireworks in Erbil and Hewler then went live to Duesseldorf.
