Hello, any good ideas for a test\temporary install\support for my CM 180?
Just want to test reception\placement and 'get to know the dish' before any digging and concrete.

Thanks

Did you get a mount of some sort with this?

Got only the rear mount. No pole (will get hold of anything needed).

That's a 4.5 inch (115cm) pole you'll need for that. Perhaps something like a sign post can be used for that. It's a heavy beast.. or NPRM... but those are expensive ready made.

For my CM120 I used a temporary chair-mount. ;)

^^^ Excellent, looking for ideas involving chairs, trees, pieces of rope & wood etc :O)

The approx 19° elevation here will make the dish forward heavy afaik. Got a house wall close to the rear at the intended test-site, to which I could fit adjustable cargo straps to the dish rear mount.

provide any diameter cut to length
There's a mechanical workshop nearby here that can make me anything needed, for the final install I'll put in an order. ftm am just looking for a quick fix to test dish\placement\orientation.

Don´t suppose a neighbour has a 2cv you could borrow! Used to be nicknamed the mobile deckchair!

Difficult to temp fix with that size dish I would say.

Just had a stupid thought, not that unusual, but perhaps one of these?

Loads of uses afterwards as well, and not too expensive!

Bang a couple of fenceposts into the ground 1 in front, 1 behind. You will lose some coverage of the dish face but it would be an acceptable loss for a temporary lash up - and would give the dish sufficient support it wont move with every breath of wind with a reasonable amount of adjustment possible.

When you make something temporary it will automatically become permanent. Why do not you make removable mount which will be universal, means will fit to any antenna you might end up with?

Yes, that dish is another league to what I am acustomed to, but it should be possible with a little thinking and some good tips.

Good point. Plan is to make it too simple, very ugly & cumbersome, to be sure it's temporary :O)
Just need a few days to see what to get out of it under less than ideal conditions. Idea is, if it works decent at that test position, it should later work out perfect in the spot nearby where concrete and metal is planned. btw, it's for 28 east.

The chair idea in post above gave the clue. Put it on a tire, which gives excellent support, and allows for lnb mount tube to go clear. The very heavy rearmount will not be used = overall weight is halfed and it all became very manageable.

Got some 'eyenuts' to secure it using original mount bolts & holes, securing it with similar eyenuts on house wall using adj. cargo straps. See attach.

That will work ! :-woohoo (I hope). Need to take down a few small trees. Further info when done...

Some time ago I saw some installs of a dish upside down, with two sticks (in V-form) under the new 'up'side (where the arm leaves the dish), IIRC.
The advantage is, that the offset dish is positioned more horizontally than vertically, and supporting it from the ground is much easier.

I hope I explained this somewhat understandably. A picture would explain it better, i think, but I don't know where I saw it.....

Ah! I found the website again! It's: http://watkin-online.com/
Ingenious construction!:)

I did this for temp setup of CM180:

Q&D verification set-up of Channel Master 180 for 28.2E

It is a fence post from the builder's market. It's attached with simple L-brackets to a pallet, and supported by a CM120 wall/roof mount.
...but it wasn't very substantial - a little bit of wind at it was wobbling quite a bit. (I took it down again after a couple of hours).

When I needed to experiment with some 120cm dishes, I instead went for a DIY tripod built entirely from low-cost pressure treated wood.
Worked ok, but still wobbling a bit in the wind (I later put some sand-bags over the legs to keep tripod fixated).

It's literally six planks and a wooden fence post, and some decking screws.

I was experimenting with temporary installation of the Ajak motor on tripod mount till it fell down in the garage and broke Ajak.... yes, it happened 13th May (Friday). Means, temporary is not always the best choice.
