If Matt Smith has his way the 50[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary episode of Doctor Who, set for November 2013, will be a 3D 'multi-doctor' special. The incumbent Doctor recently claimed he wouldn't stay on as the Doctor indefinitely, but he would like to be part of the 50[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary episode.
The multi-doctor storyline, wherein previous actors who've played Doctor Who reprise their roles, was done for the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] and 20[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversaries of the show. For the upcoming 50[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary, fans are hoping that many previous Doctors will be willing to come back, such as Colin Baker, Tom Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, who played the Doctor in the TV-movie version of the series, and Peter Davison, who has already reprised his role in two other episodes. Though we are yet to hear as to whether or not these actors will be coming back, David Tennant, another previous doctor, has already said he's willing. Only Christopher Eccleston, who played the Doctor for just one season in 2005, already confirmed that he will not be returning.
“I love making Doctor Who and I get to be a part of that 50[SUP]th[/SUP] year which they'll do something mental for. You know it will be brilliant,” Smith told Bang Showbiz. “I'm interested in all the 3D stuff. If it could be filmed for 3D TV that would be fun, especially with Doctor Who, but it's very expensive. I don't know how they'd do it.”
Despite some confusion over the next Doctor Who series, Smith has confirmed that he will be a part of the show, which is set to be screened in two parts over 2012 and 2013.
