Ah, that would explain it. (the lack of subtitles). I wonder why recording knocks the live ones out though....

As to the RAM, @ RustySpoons, there I was thinking this would be straighforward. I have no idea what you're talking about - completely beyond me. However, if I plug them (the two boxes) into my internet router and tell you my IP address (off list) can you burrow in and find out what you want? I have no idea if that's possible.....
I could, but then it gets even more complicated as you need to forward ports and such, also opens you up to hacking :)
I wonder if anything is buried in the settings on the box, like System Info, About, Something like that...

I’d never realised Rai carried English subtitles!

Questo Nostro Amore 80 currently on Rai 1 HD has them on Teletext p778 too.

This is just standard teletext subtitles, but some receivers just recognise this as a subtitles stream and display the subs in their own font (not in teletext style) - this is what Sky boxes do. My Wetek Play running Kodi is also displaying them in its own font from Rai, and they’re selectable from the subtitles menu.

I found out how to get MPV to display dvb_teletext subtitles, or any single teletext page. If its ffmpeg was compiled with zvbi then MPV can display teletext but it doesn't know which page, so you have to tell it. e.g --teletext-page=150 for Das Erste, which worked OK with my copy.

In the RAI 1 HD recording it doesn't find any pages, not even the default 100.

It looks like a multistream bug. Because they wouldn't multiplex in a dvb_teletext stream if they didn't intend to fill it with data.

Received my Primo S2 IP today from Amazon.

It's a nice little box. Tuning is quick, and it handles the multistream services fine. Fairly easy to reorganise the channel list (swapping channels up and down) too.

There's custom firmware available from sat-soft that I've been playing with (you just download the image, unzip it to a USB stick and do a USB software update - really easy!) This enables OSCam on the box so you can use the inbuilt card reader (not tried this yet) and get emulator channels etc. Works fine with the Greek BISS stuff on 3.1E including ERT, I'll give the Swiss channels on 13E a go at some point.

Sounds great, didn't know about the alternative firmware.
Does it come with Oscam on the standard firmware from Edision?
Also is there any way you can check how much RAM this has :)

Decisions, decisions.

Will Rusty forget the memory issue?

Will I put my hand in my pocket?

We should be told.

Well I FTPed into the box with the standard firmware (username root, pass edision - very lucky first time guess!) and there are Oscam config files in it, which show that it is set up for web interface on port 8888. However that doesn’t work and there’s no way I can see in the menus of actually enabling and using it. So yes, there might be OSCam in the standard firmware but I’ve no idea how you actually use it.

In the custom firmware, it just appears in the conditional access menu - you select OSCam and then it says to go to port 8888 in your browser in the normal way, which works!

I did have a look round the menus and couldn’t find anything to tell me the amount of RAM, I’ll do a bit more investigation and get back to you!

Can you SSH or telnet in to it?

Just been having another look - SSH is blocked, but telnet works! (Login root with no password)

The RAM reported by the system is around 150MB:

Code:
[root@gx6602 /]# cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 150860 kB

Hello Adam792 - small world isn't it??!!

How I wish I had your expertise to risk playing around. Keep us posted as to how you get on. My trusty Technomate 5402 mk 3 (which hasn't had an update for at least two years) manages - ahem - to pick up those 13 deg channels you mention. And let us know if you get a Fransat card going (can't remember if you've got one).

As you say, organising the box is fairly simple, one of the drawbacks to the Octagon 4008 in my view, the need to hook it up to a computer to achieve any sort of channel editing..... Good to have confirmatio that the Edision is "flexible" in the same way as the Octagon SX88+.

It is!! :Y

I must admit I was a bit nervous installing the custom firmware at first in case I bricked the box, but it was really straightforward (unzipping the update file to a USB and then plugging it into the box and going to the update menu) and worked absolutely fine.

I've just tried those certain 13E channels and sure enough they work absolutely fine. :D

Yes, I do have a Fransat card so I will give that a go and report back. I just need to dig out the OSCam configuration stuff for it.

Dug out my Fransat card, all working fine in the Edision Primo with OSCam. It took a little while to get going because the entitlements were out of date, but after a few minutes on TF1 it had updated (all still in the Edision) and is clearing all the channels now!

HD+ also works, but TNTSat doesn't - OSCam reads and finds the keys from the card fine but the channels don't clear for some reason, I think it may be due to the OSCam version being too old.

Still, very impressed with this little box for the price!

@ Adam792

I think I've located the correct software (Primo_IP_S2_v1.04.48.zip ??)

So is that all I need to do, put the mupg on a USB stick (root) and load it, in order to get Fransat working?

That's the one! - From sat-soft.net?

You need to unzip all the files in that ZIP including the mupg to the USB Stick, plug it in to the receiver, and go to Menu > Installation > Firmware Update

Then with Upgrade method USB highlighted, press OK and it should find Primo_IP_S2_v1.04.48 on the stick and ask if you want to install.

Fransat will work after that with a little bit of configuration of OSCam.

Thanks for checking, but 150mb is not correct, that's an odd size... unless it's using some sort of VM on the flash!

Does it have dmidecode installed? Also the "top" command should show total memory too.

dmidecode is not installed, but I’ve just tried top and that reports the same -

~80MB in use plus ~70MB free. It is a weird size if that’s the case!

Unless the CPU has some ram on its die. Are 5oi using a USB flash stick?

Maybe is has mapped some RAM for the GPU framebuffer and hardware decoding which would not be visible?
