The deal with Oz was that if they won they had to partnet a European country to host it - there will be no long haul trips down under for EV.

China is likely to join in within a few years too - Hunan TV was involved somewhere. No idea if they were showing it live though due to the +9 time differences.

Australia is not in Europe. Let's invite them UEFA 2016, while we are at it. Voting is odd and totally mismatched. Poland, for example, was stone dead last (with Germany) according to the 'judges' but viewers thought otherwise. Russia won in viewers' eyes but Australia won in judges' eyes...who should never have been there in the first place.

Anyway, night...

You're right, Australia isn't in Europe, but forget about UEFA, they already compete in the Asian Football Confederation competitions anyway.
Also Israel isn't in Europe, neither is Cyprus, while the Caucasus countries of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia can be blurred between Europe & Asia. Morocco entered the competition once also while some other Middle Eastern countries have considered it. With the exception of the Australian wildcard entry, to compete in the ESC the country needs to lie within the European Broadcasting Area as defined by the ITU and have a main member broadcaster in the EBU. The only countries within the EBA that don't have a main member that is part of the EBU are Liechtenstein, Syria, Saudi Arabia & Iraq.

Well that's done and dusted for another year then!

Got to say Sweden put on a very good show!

Saw a bit of Rai 1 HD's coverage on 5°W MIS and they absolutely hacked the live broadcast to pieces between the end of the songs and the voting, they kept cutting away to random clips they'd done including the Italian singer, plus the typical 8 minute advert break!

It made what BBC Three/Four do with the semi finals look conservative.

Yes indeed. I doubt if any other country host would match that.
The fashion show was good. The songs not so much.
