Swing her dish round to 9E :D

Just got around to looking at this and SWMBO still has France 2,3,4 and Overseas on 11591.
Do we know the intended switch-off date?

Edit: Having looked at some of the links posted earlier, it'll be the end of November.

Yep.

Dead as some Dodos.

Must shift SWMBO's 5W LNB to 9E.

A possibility is maybe more multistreams, perhaps containing some regional versions of the R1 multiplex (France 2, France 3 etc).

In some areas where the regional version of France 3 is being upgraded to HD, the multiplex is being reconfigured so the two local channels (either two regional France 3 channels or a France 3 and a local channel) are statistically multiplexed with the other channels, instead of the other channels being stat muxed in Paris and fed by satellite (The feed that was on 11591V, now 11509H MIS!) and constant bitrate versions of the local channels being added on site. This allows for better image quality on France 3 as it can go much higher than 5.1Mbps when it needs to, and currently also means that the transmitters no longer use satellite at all for this multiplex as they require a completely unique version. Multistream could enable them to roll this new technology out to some of the more remote transmitters maybe.

Otherwise it could be more pay channels or nothing at all! :D

The Newtec transponders stopped simply because the whole terrestrial DVB network in France is now being fed by the Multistreams. Newtec is a proprietary system that required loyalties, MIS is much cheaper and easier to setup as the whole multiplex is ready to play in the transmitters with no/minimal modifications.
Most DVB-T/T2 providers transmit the whole multiplex structure as is via satellite. Digea and Abertis do the same, the latter uses Hispasat and each pid (except some regional ones) have a separate mux inside of them which is ready to feed the terrestrial multiplex as is. In my estimation Abertis will pass to multistream as well in the near future.

FEC 25/36 :-ohmy

Going to need this one then
TBS6522 Multi-standard Dual Tuner PCI-e Card

Works with these fec's in DVB-S2X
DVB-S2X
QPSK: 13/45, 9/20, 11/20
2_4_2_APSK: 100/180, 104/180
8PSK: 23/36, 25/36, 13/18
8_8_APSK: 90/180, 96/180, 100/180, 18/30, 20/30
16APSK: 26/45, 3/5, 28/45, 23/36, 25/36, 13/18, 140/180, 154/180
4_12_16rb_APSK: 2/3
4_8_4_16_APSK: 128/180, 132/180, 140/180

I wonder if the commercial satellite industry will ever catch up with these formats that have been around for a while now :-doh
They probably won't bother so TBS is the only way for enthusiasts :)

I take it these LG TVs are Freesat approved too?

Was just thinking that 33°E is a nice easy offset from 28.2°E for a couple of bonus French channels, presuming the signals are nice and strong? (I think I saw a footprint map the other day showing it as 54dBW over a big chunk of the UK).
