I'm struggling with setting up card sharing

i have instaeed the newcamd_6.09_060325.tar.bz2 file

but i understand i need to edit the following 2 files:
1. Cardserv.cfg
2. Newcamd.conf

They do not appear to be in: /var/tuxbox/config

Why is this?

I don't think so, but Gemini makes it easy,

to get the files you require go to the
blue panel -> download and installs -> Cam_plugins

dowload and install newcamd config

you should now see the files in
/var/tuxbox/config/newcamd

good luck

Ah, i see, thanks.

Thats my next struggle, enabling dreambox to access the net.

I'm using a crossover cable, do i just enable my internet connection to be shared with my dreambox network connection? Oh, and enable my Zonealarm to alow a connection from my Dreambox IP address?

I thought you hated the Dreambox so much you were gonna sell it?

Yes, you will need to tell ZA that your DB ip is a trusted zone.

The 500 is a little lacking in processing power (I think), now I've set mine up to use a $ky house card it's even more flaky than usual.

Is your PC the conection (no router)? You need to enter your PC ip as the gateway in Expert Setup > comms

Ok, yes, i decided to leave it few days and give it another go, but i'm about to throw it out the window, this time!!

So, if I put my internet IP in default gateway, i have to change it everytime net conection is restarted, as my ip seems to change? or am i on wrong ip? Client or server IP? Guess i have non static IP?

Communications Setup settings
IP:192.168.0.24
Net Mask:255.255.255.0
Type: LAN
NAme Server: WHATS THIS FOR???
Gate Way: 81.178.***.** THIS IS CLIENT IP ADDRESS WHEN RIGHT CLICK MY INTERNET NETWORK CONNECTION AND CLICK ON DETAILS,THIS RIGHT?
PORT:80

LAN CARD SETTINGS
IP:192.168.0.5
SUB NET:255.255.255.0
DEFAULT GATEWAY: NOTHING IN

Dont know what i'm doing wrong, but it dont seem to work, when i go on blue button/addons/download and install sais Can't resolve hostname!

Zonealarm Firewall/zones

I have 192.168.0.5 as trusted ip address, is this right?

Oh, PC is my connection using USB ,modem and connection to Dreambox is via cross over cable

Sorry to be a pain in the a**e, i hate asking stupid stuff, but i'm really stuck.

Thanks for your patience.

Still up. So i have put all settings on DHCP, on Dreambox and my Internet connection, well, clicked obtain an IP address automaticaly. But my LAN card (Dreambox connection on pc) is saying, no or limited connectivity.

Well decided give dreambox blue button a try, and dowload screen comes up this time but is blank, waited 5 mins and same? So, exited.

During this time, my firewall was working overtime, blocking loads of connections. Guess it thinks they are bad. But how do i allow my dreambox to connect, when this auto IP DHCP thing is active? I cant add an allowed IP address if it's automatic? Anyway?

Well, seems i'm getting bit further, but its still not working.

NAme Server: this is your ISP DNS server IP
Gate Way: this is your PC LAN ip

Try it with Zone Alarm turned off while testing.

i'm about to throw it out the window,
= Dreambox ownership; I feel like that every now & then :-doh!

to get the ip for your Gateway do the following

go onto your PC and click.

Start> All programs> Accessories> Command Prompt

a little black box will open up...
in that box type

ipconfig /all

and press enter, you should get somethng like this.

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : ?????????
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
PPP adapter internet:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : ?
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : ?
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ?
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.23.3.100

I have turned DHCP off on Dreambox and LAN card, but my ISP uses DHCP?

ZA off.

Tried another image, tired settings, just dont have a clue, i hated all this network IP stuff as college! Well annoying.

Please can some Remote Assist me? I have dreambox connected as web cam so could show you in msn?

I really dont know what questions to ask, i just dont know what to do.

what gateway does network card have to have? surely it need the IP from ym net connection? Which is non static!

Whats DNS?

Help

OK lets try it another way :)

1, type in the network settings screen and what you have for them all
2, give us your Local PC IP Address (if you use a router i need the IP for that too)

also what cable have you got running from your PC to your Dreambox??
is it a straight or Crossover cat5 ethernet cable?....
does it pass through a hub/switch or router?

Do you have success using FTP to put files etc on your dreambox?

we WILL get this to work Grrrrr (we dont want a little dreambox attacked by a frustrated user) :)

heres my network screen

IP = the IP i have given the Dreambox

Netmask = same as the LAN in my home

Type = LAN (Local area network)

Nameserver = The IP address of the PC with the shared Internet connection (if you get on the net through a router, then this needs to be the IP of the router)

Gateway = Same as above

Port 80 = This is the port that is most common on Pcs browsing the internet

DHCP = I leave this unticked because, if its ticked the IP address (192.168.0.10) changes everytime i reboot my Box!! very annoying when using FTP, and you have to keep checking this screen on the dreambox, to see what IP its using now!!
So unticked forces it to use the IP you give it.

Enable Network = Goes without saying, you do want it to work dont you :)

and mine works perfectly, i click downloads and the list is instant!! i dont wait for 1 second at all

lol, that made me smile mate, its a good job i'm off work with a broken leg at the moment, otherwise, it would take me weeks to do this, thank you all for your patience.

Right,

I have Dreambox 500s, with gemini 2.80 and Newcamd_beta6.09
Cate5 Crossover
Using Cute FTP works %100 fine, FTP, updated keys etc fine.
I'm not using hub, router, its direct from Dreambox to LAN port in back of PC/motherboard.

Dreambox Settings
IP:192.168.0.24
Netmask255.255.255.0
LAN
nameserver: 192.168.0.3
Gateway: 192.168.0.4

networkenable, ticked port 80

use http authentication ticked

Any other settings i need here? Take ages to list them all?

PC Settings

I have 3 Network connections showing

PIPEX net connection, Local Area 4, Local Area 2 (this is my sky star sat card)

PIPEX Settings
TCP/IP both set to obtain IP address automatically but when i go into details, currently set to
Server IP **.***.***.***
Client IP **.***.***.**

Local Area 4 settings
TCP/IP
IP 192.168.0.4
sub 2552552550
default gateway: nothing in it????

Internet sharing is enabled on my pipex connection, is that right? Do i need to click on services and enable anything here? As none are ticked?
Allow other networks users to conect..... is ticked
And home networking connection is set to: Local Area 4

Hope you can help

Cheers

OK.

right firstly Dreambox settings

Change nameserver and gateway to read 192.168.0.4

on your PC, do you have a firewall???

remember, windows has its own firewall too... is it enabled, maybe its blocking your Dreambox
