Ok ..just had a phone call from my brother ...
He works for a company for whom budget isn't really a great consideration ...but this company ..needs to receive BeIN sports ..
They believe this can be done with a 3.6mtr dish ..
I'm not so sure ...
which is why I'm consulting the great oracle that is Sats UK.
Firstly ..if it is possible ...they are going to need a huge dish ..
They can mount such a beast ...but where to get one either in the UK or Europe preferably ..
second ..
I looked at Flysat and this is where doubt creeps in ..
BeIN appears to be on the MENA beam ...which does not extend its footprint north of Spain ..
but I guess it could be dual illuminated so as to also be on the 25B ku East beam ...which IS possible in the UK ..
anyone ?

..Maybe BeIN Sports is available on a different bird...which is perhaps another alternative.

...still available @ 7W it seems ...but is this set to change ?
7W (Nilesat) is probably easier but there have been rumours that it might not last ...

I know 25e is not accessible in Swansea on a 2.4m dish and I am certainly seeing 0 signal on the Laminas. 7W is easy on a 1.2m dish - the signal is certainly very high on the 1.8m.

As I said ..I have my doubts that this is possible ...and am trying to get confirmation so that they don't waste serious money on a non starter..
If there was a hint of signal on a 2.4m ..then _maybe _ just maybe ...but with no signal at all ..I suspect MENA just isn't viable.

It's almost like we are in a null.... at least in the south of UK.

It is very unlikely you will get this beam even with a very big dish due to the new tight footprint transponder design as they is no signal to lock onto in the fringe area's,

Badr 26 E and 25.5°E Eutelsat 25B/Es'hail 1

You can get bein sports on 7.3w but only channels 1 - 10 ( Arabic language) the English sport channels ( 11 - 13 )& movie channels are only on 25.5e :(

I only have a 1.5m and am in North west UK. Now I had a play about the other day and tuned beIN sports 11 (forget which transponder) and it lit my tuner display green on my Duo2. Now this has me intrigued, because a few years ago exactly the same thing happened with my CM 1.2 on some of the weaker transponders on 7.3w. When i stepped up to 1.5m they came in 24/7 but granted there wasnt much rain margin.

I just wonder if there are pockets of the UK that can receive it?

Quite possible Kensington where the rich Arabs live may be such a lobe for 25.5 east as I know that they get Nilesat 201 & Badr 5 & 6 with a 500cm dish in West London.

5m! Well I can get most of Badr6 on the 1.8m and Badr5 is there too but needs 2.4m for something usable. I see absolute zilch from 25.5e. Nothing.... it's barely a bump on the spectrum. I'll post a screenshot tomorrow

As stated before, if you want to receive the full package, then it is only available via 25.5E, 7W offers limited coverage even though it is relatively easy to pick up. I will send you some details via PM. ;)

Would it not be cheaper and easier to use a sling box with decent broadband at either end?

Hi - Always up for a challenge :) been looking re the 3 beIN transponders at 25.5 E this morning and was getting flickers of signal from them .... so tried to build on that if i could .... removed the 2 C band feeds which block a fraction of KU signal and did some fine tuning of the ku l.n.b position --- managing to hold 1.7 - 2.0 db on the H transponder and holding 1.3 - 1.5 d.b. on the verticals ..... on the 1.8 c.m. into the F15 receiver using a black ultra twin l.n.b. ..... this is clearly a long way from any kind of lock, but is an interesting result .... What part of the country is your brother hoping to receive from ?
regards ;)

Not sure exactly where the dish would be located Nelson ...but Well South of Birmingham shall we say ..
Maybe a 3.6m is viable then on certain transponders..?
If you read this Bro ..
take note of Nelsons post ...
this is real Data ..

That is certainly interesting and means that the south west UK, at least, is in some kind of null as I see NOTHING at all....

Just e-mailed my brother and told him to check this thread ..and take a look at Nelsons results ...
very interesting indeed..
Cheers for the actual test Nelson mate ..
much appreciated..
Might be doable afterall ..

..assuming it is ...
where would he get a 3.6m dish in the UK or Europe ..
remember ...budget aint really an issue here ...
more relevant is prolly the logistics of distance and aquisition time ?
