The DM8000 should not be compared with the old school Chaparral Montereys adn especially not the ones from SCT, the Montereys series were high end enthusiast receiver for DX people, the DM8000 is cheaply made and used for cardsharing, it got no hardware blindscanning, no 36V motor built-in bla bla bla....
Closest to the old Montereys today are Reelbox Avantgarde II, highend quality with great hardware with mediocre software, however it still lacks some but is technically a much more advanced receiver than DM8000 is.
So yes the DM8000 is scary priced for what you get, is it worth the money over DM800? no they run the same firmware and the DM800 is smaller, paying twice the price for modular tuners and some more USB/CF ports is just crazy.
I bought a Vu+ Duo last week and have a mediaplayer Popcorn Hour C200 which is the best of both worlds on current market.
