Sony TV Asia
MAX
ITV Central S

Can someone please give me a valid postcode for one of these Central regions, I'm of to Corfu next month for the Summer and would like to set up my LG Freesat TV to one of these regions which will then hopefully give me the HD facility aswell(I'm thinking World Cup).

Although if tonight's anything to go by the HD dropped out at half time in the United match and never returned.

Cheers

Jim

Are you refering to ITV Central S & ITV Central E?
In which case you will need a sky card to view them, as they are on 11973 and encrypted, and a freesat receiver / TV will not be able to get them.

Seems like the only FTA ITV1 regions left not requiring a SKY card for us in Cyprus are ITV Wales/ITV West and ITV W Country

ITV HD dropping out must be a problem with your dish alignment or receiver, as I watched the whole match on HD and there were no transmission problems.

To Woborny - Ah! hadn't thought of that, I'll have to use my Sky box with freesat from sky card and watch in SD.

To rolfw et al - The selfsat I use probably does need a tweakette, they are very sensitive.

So FREESAT now seems to have only a few ITV regions left, seems a bit mad that people like me who have shelled out for FREESAT equipment can't watch their own regional programmes on it, I assume they'll leave at least one available for us.

there is not reception problem , the 11973V freq. comes quite strong at 14.1 db but the channels are not fta so you need a sky card to watch these channels

What regional programmes - the local news is about all thats left these days - and if you live round here there bu99er all of that either since the Border newsroom was closed and the service moved to Newcastle as an opt out from Toon Tess!

Its fine if you want to hear about drugs busts in Gateshead but sweet FA any use for finding out whats actually happening around here.

There are 18 ITV regions (including stv and utv) on 2D. There are only 8 regions encrypted (non 2D).

In any case, encryption is a much more sensible way to precisly control access to channels than trying to control the physical reach of satellite beams.

Not for Freesat it isnt - none of the boxes have any decryption circuitry in them - probably to stop a future Government trying to send the BBC subscription.

Anyway wait till Astras 2E - 2G launch - their multiple spotbeams will reduce expat viewing - especially the Middle East beam which should shut out the Cyprus viewers nicely!

That is my point. I think the whole concept of freesat without a viewing card is flawed given the way programme rights are currently sold (that is another debate).

Where can I find details of the Astras 2E - 2G beams please - I am interested to see how they might affect us here?

No exact technical info yet, and wont be for a couple of years - SES have been VERY secretive about their new birds ever since they dropped 1K into the Pacific

From DigitalSpy:

From April 2, Sky and Virgin Media subscribers will be able to watch the new high definition simulcast of ITV1, which will also transfer to a static channel from its current Red Button availability on Freesat.

What's the bet that they have been clearing a bit of space for ITV1 HD on Astra 2D?

So Cyprus not a place to retire to then?

Im sure Cyprus is a very nce place to retire as its got a warm climate (but not much water according to an interesting article on the BBC News website I saw a few days ago!) The chances to get UK tv via satellite may reduce in the future but there are always slingboxes or other iptv methods.

we shall have to wait and see...Astra 2D also has a spot beam on UK and looking at her footprint one wouldn't say it was possible, but somehow we managed to get the horizontal channels on this bird with 3m+ dishes.

Yes we only the get the horizontals too - looks like that is going to include ITV1 HD though which is good news :-)
