Firstly ...I wish to thank you guys for your _sensible_ advice..
Here's the thing ..
I could spend many hours getting inside ..if indeed I ever manage it ..
This lump is the most rusted thing I've ever worked on ..
looks like it was lay in long wet grass or a puddle for years..
So ..I took a descision that the purists might think was stoopid..
and It was a while before I plucked up the courage.
Armed with my trusty dremel an a heated blade I cut a door in the top cover big enough to get the cover off..
This ..I can repair if neccessary ...and who wouldn't want a door anyway ..?
..for greasing and service etc.
In short ..this cover should have been designed with access ..
The reason for this drastic manoeuvre being ..
I dont want to waste hours accessing something that may not be salvageable anyway..
Ewww ...once inside it looks like a wildlife sanctuary ...
I will attempt a clean ...but in truth ..this motor may have seen better days..
