No that's absolutely fine. You've done EXACTLY what's needed by tuning the http into something else. Another way is to put an underscore or dash immediately before the http i.e. _http or -http.

Surely this also means that a British ex-pat living elswhere within the EU can legally Sub to Sky (UK) TV?

We are a long way from this being possible.

The whole judgement today isnt binding on the final court verdict - its only a guideline. There no point at all anyone getting excited yet - the next stage is months away yet!

Isn't this more about showing the 3pm match live in UK ? The FA sell this to other countries so they can watch all games live, but isn't there another law banning people from watching the 3pm match in UK ? If more people bought nova/tring /admc cards then less would go to live games.

Yup theres a 2 hour blackout here in the UK - but theres no similar blackout in other European countries & it doesnt seem to hurt their attendances.

Correct about the attendance thing but the FA are protecting not just the premier league but the lower leagues as well. Most other european countries do not have the amount of clubs as in the UK.
I for one when I lived in the UK regularly went to watch conference football when my team were away as I worked Saturday mornings so couldnt travel far. I admit I would not go and watch conference football if I could have stayed at home and watched my team.

That's not what this is about. Sky are free to decide who their customers are. If they don't want to market their service on a Europe wide basis there is no law to force them to do so.

This doesn't apply to Tring cards, only services from the EU.

Well if a few financially derelict lower league teams go under so what? The league would be stronger with a dozen or so of the worst basket cases weeded out.

That isn't fair, I hate it when a team goes bust. Not fair on their fans. I never miss a home game and go to quite a few away games with my club but when I can't go I'll watch a 3pm instead. True supporters will still go to the game

If football clubs were run like proper businesses and stopped using their tax revenues like a private bank at least 20 would have gone out of business in the last 5 years. THAT says something about the financial state of the lower leagues.

Absolutely :-rofl2

When it all shakes out, the situation could well be worse than now - Hobson's choice with the usual digger out on top.

Couldn't agree more.

I think a few hopeful folk with self-interest to the fore are jumping the gun by reacting only to today's headline. That way leads only to disappointment.

As previously suggested, people are getting prematurely excited. Firstly this is an advocate's opinion and whilst having been accepted in 90% of cases to date, they have not been accepted in 100% of cases, so is not a done deal.

There are then (should the advocate's advice be acted on) potentially far reaching repercussions, all of which will not necessarily be to the benefit of the English football fan and English football. Some may be as follows.

  1. Sky may dramatically reduce the amount they are willing to pay for future seasons, critically affecting the income to the FPL, many teams go bust, league deteriorates, foreign audiences lose interest and foreign providers no longer buy the rights.
  2. The FaPL no longer sell on their coverage to non-UK providers at the existing prices, making them pay the same rates as UK based companies, putting it out of reach for less affluent countries, or perhaps even not resell at all outside the UK.
  3. Potentially no more 3pm games will be televised (even by non-uk providers), in fact this could spell the end of 3pm Premiership games altogether
  4. If the pubs and clubs are cleared to buy direct from the non-UK providers, they will perhaps need to pay commercial rates, not domestic as at present, so the differences may not be so huge, it will also mean that the very people hawking these enhanced price foreign subscription packages to pubs, will lose out to direct sales.

It ain't all sunshine and roses.

Don't think he could be much more disliked, but does it worry him? Probably not. ;)

Its completely legal. I run a pub in Swansea and bought a system.
Now that karen murphy has got it through Europe, there is compelling evidence that is is legal.

Admin note: Removed Youtube link as was irrelevant.
