What’s that mean?

Stab clone?
FWIW, that certainly looks (IIRC) similar to the Alsat "Supreme" that I sent back and absolutley nothing like the STAB that came with my s/h Gibby (and that proved to be faulty when CH tested it)

Not exactly, you connect everything, including the LNB, to your receiver, set Motor/Dish/LNB to 0. You then use your receiver, once you have entered your correct Latitude, and Logitude, and use your receiver to send the dish to 1W.
Once the motor has moved you then physically move the dish, using your hands, to align to 1W. You then adjust the brackets to maximise the signal quality, until you get the best quality possible. Tighten everything up, then use your receiver to send the dish to your furthest East satellite, that's available, like 52E, 42E, 39E, or just 28.5E, then to 30W, providing your dish has enough room to travel that far, without any obstructions, and post bac, with the signal quality levels.
Thats the correct way to do it with Usals :Y

Ok, so at the point of the motor moving the dish to 1w, is it then ok to move the dish left and right itself, hence moving it off center on the motor?

No move the motor (leaving the dish centred on the motor) around the pole to peak the 1°W signal. The pole also needs to be plumb - just saying that as I don't think it's been mentioned in the thread.

F1B3EA5B-873C-4531-86F4-8559B20B9FA3.jpegNot had much luck with it this evening.

The guide that came with the motor says the following….

My latitude is 52.5 so on the motor itself I have set 38 degrees.

I have set the dishes elevation to 27.5 degrees but the dish looks way too tipped back. The dish face should be flat at 1 west surely?

It’s not how the dish looks it’s a case of is it properly aligned to the reference satellite and are you tuning channels. You’ve had very explicit instructions on how to locate and tune the reference satellite. If you follow those instructions the motor does the rest of the work. Just enter your details here and you have everything you need to complete the job DishPointer - Align your satellite dish

Just seen this thread on these motors.

Looks like I was right, the elevation being set at 38 on the motor itself is wrong.

The dish at reference is tipped right back and that is without doubt, wrong.

I am going to take my receiver and TV out to the dish in the morning to align.

Buy a cheap satellite meter, they cost £7-£10, or did, and are very useful.
You used to be able to get them from local DIY shops, and elsewhere, prior to the lockdown.

I had one and can’t find it in my box of Sat stuff in the garage!

Seems like Toolstation sell one, I’ll go and pick one up in the morning.

Satellite Finder This can be downloaded to your phone and will give you real time location of your reference satellite. Just place your phone on top of your dish and adjust elevation accordingly. You’re actually looking at your local area on screen. satellite finder - Google Search

I used that earlier and have used it in the past, it’s great!

Pretty sure azimuth wise I am good. Dish elevation is out.

Just ensure your mounting pole is plumb and your motor likewise. After that you swing the dish and motor around to the general location of your reference satellite and from there the elevation can be easily adjusted using satellite finder. The main thing is you locate and tune the reference satellite otherwise you’re wasting your time. Don’t get caught up on what you think the elevation should look like. Just find and tune the reference satellite and you can be guided from there if any adjustments need to be made.

I am pretty confident in finding 1west. I have had it here before on this dish and that was just holding the dish and pointing it in the general direction.

I will check the dish is absolutely bang on plumb with the motor etc again in the morning when I have collected the sat finder.

Well, an elevation angle of about 38 degree would still be correct, but if the motor scale(s) indeed only use a latitude value (as is written in that thread), you should indeed set the latitude value on the motor scale (or better: the modified latitude value, so 52.5+0.7 = 53.2 degrees).

Modified dish declination offset angle would be 7.5-0.7 = 6.8 degrees, and because the bend angle of the motor shaft seems to be 35 degrees, the dish elevation scale should be set at 35-6.8 = 28.2 degrees.

Update - I have Thor and the majority of the eastern sats. The western sats are blocked by an obstacle.

USALS is massively overshooting every Sat for some reason.

My longitude is -2.4W.

I can’t work out how to put a minus into my receiver.

That's a very odd number!

Maybe it only allows upto 180 East or West - so can you select 2.4 West?

Or maybe the receiver is not a Dragonsat but a Dragonshit??
