Update - I have Thor and the majority of the eastern sats. The western sats are blocked by an obstacle.

USALS is massively overshooting every Sat for some reason.

My longitude is -2.4W.

I can’t work out how to put a minus into my receiver.

It’ll take 111.1 but not 357.6.
If its doing consisently to one side OR the other, then the motor needs to shifted very slightly around the pole to take that into account of that.

OTOH, if it's overshooting East when you drive the motor East and West when you drive it West, then that's a clear sign of backlash in the gearbox (both my Dark Motors suffered that to begin with), and needs to be adjusted out.

Yeah that’s what I had it set to when it was overshooting the sats.
Either it's a problem with your receiver, motor, or you haven't set it up correctly.
When you say massively over shooting, by about how many degrees?
When your dish is aligned to 1W, the 0, on your motor should be pointing to 2.4W, so as you stand behind the dish, 1.4-1.6 degrees to your right, West.

I have had to move the dish to a more wind shielded place. I moved the dish round to 0.8W on USALS and then moved it.

Turned the receiver off, did a full USALS reset and realigned the dish with the motor at 0.8W.

It’s now working perfectly.

My scaffold pole is bobbing around a bit too much for my liking so I think I’ll concrete it at some point.

Any recommendations for fringe EU satellites to test the signal strength and quality?

Seems that you sorted out the previous misalignment of the motor on the pole when you moved the latter.

Had to concrete the scaffolding poles for both the Gibby and the TD110 - and then add steel stabilisers to the adjacent fence to ABOVE the DMs to pull the poles upright because they were bending under the weights!

Regardless of that problem, you'll need to stabilise the pole so it doesn't "bob around" or the dish will never point consistently at any satellite (especially those with weak signals)!

"It all depends" on what your visible arc turns out to be (no point in us suggesting sats that the dish can't actually "see"!)

Check out lyngsat, how far west can you get? You can try 3W and 5W.
For east you've got a number of satellites, you can check.
Have a look at william-1's strongest transponders, peak your signal quality, then try a blind scan.

42e to 7w before obstacles, walls etc get in the way.

Regarding the pole, is concreting it the best way to stiffen it up?

As you’ve a reduced visible east/west arc to play with you should be able to push your dish further east. Maybe reposition your installation to concentrate on the easterly portion of the arc. Maybe include a picture of your current installation so suggestions could be given. Some interesting Ku stuff in the 50s E to be had. Really depends what you’re after.

I have a tree just past 42e. If I bring the dish further forward I’d get the full eastern arc but then lose 0.8W.

Nowadays, there doesn't seem much unencrypted stuff on 0.8W except Chinese "semi-propaganda" and various religious channels - but a lot more unencrypted stuff further East than 42E (& especially on 52E).

OTOH, with a DiSEqC switch and an extra 1m fixed dish "tucked discretely away somewhere" you could also get 42E/46E/52E fairly easily and keep 0.8W.

Photos would help?

I am not that fussed about 0.8W to be honest.

Is there much past 4w apart from Hispasat?

no unless you went bigger for C-Band stuff.

Beyond 42e will I get much on my 85cm Gibertini?

You'd get some of the stronger channels on 8W (but not most of them) & reuters news on 22W if you could get that far.

All sorted now :Y

I had my old motorised system for over a decade and used to religiously run Diseqc because USALS was always inaccurate.

Turns out the dish was setup wrong all along!

Great!

Maybe a quick summary of what was wrong might help others with similar problems?
