Mounting a motorised dish on a flat roof

Hi,

I want to put an 85cm motorised dish on a flat roof. I just spoke to one of the forum sponors about purchasing the dish and he said I would need 3 roadside kirbs to hold it down on the flat roof. Does anyone know of a better way or where i could get this concrete kirbs? ANy further help appreciated!

Try a non penetrating roof mount mounted on rubber matting

Ok so I would need some rubber matting and the roof mount as shown on the attached thumbnail. Do you know Where I could purchase one of these and also how would this be secured? Would I need to put concrete blocks on it. I am at rented accomodation so i am looking for the easiest method. I have been granted permission to put up a wall mount so maybe this is an easier option? What do you think?

Slabs will secure the mount and they come in different sizes.

Mounting a motorised dish on a wall mount would be a cheaper option. Consider a T&K fixing but avoid the 'L' type bracket. There is just too much movement with these

I am thinking of using a Fracarro Penta 85cm dish could you recommend a motor for this dish?

Works with any DiSEqC H-H motor. Fitted many using the Moteck2100 and Technomate 2200.

just some paving slabs from a diy place will hold it down, it would be a good option if you can do this mount on a roof

In a lower league to that ground mount mentioned in post 3 is e-bay item 310082854450. The latter is thrown in the mix just because it is possibly easier to get and much cheaper.

As a wall mount is permitted, that would be the cheapest, easiest and best option.

Hey Bigtee that looks like a good option what would I need to secure it surely one patio slab wouldn't be sufficient? would it? Does anyone have experience with this product and would it need to be exactly level for a motorised dish?

With any single axis motorised setup, the general idea is that the pole is vertical yes. It makes the setting up process very much easier.

Depending on the dish size, that small mount might be Ok, with one of the large council pavement type slabs, but I think that with one of the standard domestic size slabs the dish could get blown over.


If it was for my own setup, I'd try it on a large slab to save spending out out on the proper mount, but for a professional job, stick it on the wall, or use the proper mount.

just to add something if you do use the k & t dont put the bolts in the morter as it would apper that the picture shows ( top 2 bolts on the K)

better to mount the dish on t&k brackets with a short piece of scaffold pole. you can get them from tv aerial shop etc

You may get movement with that bracket and getting it plumb may be a problem if the wall is out. As said, T&K 12" or 18" should be ok.

OK I have spoken to the guy at High Definition the supporting advertisers and he has said to me that from what I am describing i.e. my location or proposed position for the dish that an L type bracket wall mount would be better.

So I have attached some photo's of the house wall and proposed spot of the dish to get clarification of what type of bracket I should use

Although I wouldn't assume that I knew better than a pro, I can only give you advice from my own experience.

I bought an 'L' bracket which was okay until I upgraded to an 88cm dish. This threw out the vertical alignment of the bracket and I had to adjust the motor elevation to compensate. It was very fiddly and unsatisfactory.

I've since moved the setup to different site and upgraded to T&K's. This proved to very stable and once aligned no problem. Personally, I would recommend these above an 'L' bracket. you can find pictures of my old and new setup under the relevant thread on this forum.

Just agreeing with SonnetPete. The difference between an "L" bracket and using T & K's is that T & K's are adjustable while an "L" bracket is not.

Ok so the pole is adjustable with the T&K brackets is that what you are saying?

Isnt it only adjustable on one axis though i.e. the Y axis in geomtrical terms?
