My Satellite Setup
2x Pace 2600 C1 (in a box just in case) , 3 x Humax HD Foxstat (2 of which in store as spares) . 3x Manhatten Plaza - Pasat 2.4 PF dish mounted on flat roof with Invacom C120 quad LNB .

There have been a load of Vision, Fracarro and Triax multiswitches on ebay this week for very little money indeed so when I get back to the UK early next month I will attempt to get one to bring back. I also see the Invacom C120 quattros are only about £40 as well so may well buy one just in case of issues with the current quad which in any case is now about five or six years old.

Getting quite keen to try this all out - although it does mean a bit of cable rerouting etc. I assume the multiswitch should be as close to the LNB as possible so for me that would be a cable run of about 6 or so metres so I can put it in the dry and access a power point.

Still can't see the need for more than one feed per room apart from in our lounge where the PVR needs two.

I might be worth considering a 9 in / 8 or 12 output multiswitch...so you have the option in the future to add a second sattelite position Eg 19,2.......it will also work fine with non Diseqc Freesat and Sky boxes ...as long as you connect the 28,2 cables HL,HH, VL, VH to inputs 1......on the multiswitch.....
Also....If you loop through on your Humax HDR with one cable input .....it is possible to record 2 Channels with one cable input....but only .....If the channels are on the same H or V polarity....that is......

Its quite common on bigger systems for the dish to be anything upto 20-30m away from the switch (headend). Most other branded switches only allow you to attenuate the signal. If you go for the Vision switch you can amplify the signal without the need to use a separate amplifier so you can have a bit more leeway regarding how far away the dish can be.

Certain Vision switches can also be remote powered so its not necessary for you to have a power point right next to the switch. You use a remote psu and link the switch and psu by using a length of coax. In Europe Vision equipment is branded as Terra so you may be able to get one where you are.

The config I'm using now is a multiswitch Unicable with 2sat. Only 1 cable to my home, 3 decoders inside (different sats and channels), strong signal (no loses with it in Albacete near valencia and 1.3m famaval) as the multiswitch is around 3m from dish, and it has a built-in amplifier. Don't know if it's compatible with quad because I have Inverto black ultra quattro and I didn't test other.

It has 2 satellites, it cost me around 160€, sure with 1 sat is cheaper than it.

the only requirement is that your decoder has to be unicable compatible (Enigma based ones are)

All the info here is all very interesting - I was hoping I could get a switch with remote power as I don't have power socket anywhere near the dish - I read on this thread some have coax power feed - but which ones? - so far not seen any which can run from a feed up the cables. And if so are they any good?

The Triax TMPR range can be receiver powered. Havent used them myself, only the TMM cascade switches, which work very well for me and seem well built.

The Vision V5 and V9 range of Vision switches allow you to remotely power them. They have a separate input for the power which utilises coax and f connectors as the medium to transmit the power through.

I have also used some Televes switches which are also remote powered but quite frankly i thought they were s**te due to the amount of signal attenuation through them.

As for receiver powered switches there is as already mentioned the Triax TMPR switch you can use. There is also the Vision Phantom switch and also the Fracarro SWI516DC & SWI508DC switches. The Triax TMPR switch allows attenuation of any signal input but does not amplify it.

The Vision Phantom and fracarro switches are self setting which usually just means attenuation of the signal. Some of these receiver powered switches can also be problematic with certain models of Sky receiver.

In all honesty if you have issues of signal strength i would just go for the Vision V5 or V9 switch as at least you have a small amount of signal amplification. You also have incremental output strengths down the length of the switch again giving you a lot more control over other switches that have the same output strength on every port.

It just means you have to run one length of coax between the psu and the switch which is a small price to pay for such a great performing switch.
