Nelson, I don't suppose you could get me the measurements of the steel bar to attach the jack to? Length and distance of the mounting holes :)

only 2 bearings required, the jack comes with its own bearings i would go for the 18 inch version to give more arc movement and i would think its going to be stronger than 12 inch.the jack arm bar is 6mm x 40 m x 440.

hi --
bar size ----- as per purplemania,s post .

the mounting bolt holes are 65mm apart on mine -- check that its the same on yours,
mine has 2 option holes in the bar for connecting the actuator - they are 15 mm and 95 mm from the end of the bar

cheers nelson.b. :)

Got the tube today and.... it fits perfectly :D

Also ran the co-ax cable from where the dish will be, into the garage, where the DiSEqC switch will be to switch between CM and the Penta.

The alarm cable (6 core but that's OK) has also been installed from the back of the house and is currently in the garage. Still need to lay it along side the existing co-ax and into the house. That will take some work and will involve fitting a new wall plate.

Will upload some pictures later of the progress.

Excellent once done see what you can pickup on 7west.

I'm thinking of getting my 1.2 out the shed and doing a swap over tomorrow.

with your uncommitted switch will that mean you can move both your diseqc motor dish and the 1.2 on the same receiver?

That's the idea! Hope it will all work especially with VBox in the way.

36v cable is in the house now :D All I need now is to order a VBox and the SuperJack arm... Fun times ahead...

Here are the parts.

1) The whole mount has been painted black so it looks nice and fresh with the flanged bearings sat in their holes
2) The tube!
3 and 4) Tube inside the flanged bearing

So, now need to cut the tube up to be the same length as the bearing, so it becomes the insert. Then grease it all up (will any grease do or ...?) and it's almost done!

For my big dish I used several washers instead of proper bearings. They were saturated in automotive grease and well maintained with more grease several times a year.

Yeah I'll use washers as well to pad it out in places.

More updates. Cabling is now complete, until the new DiSEqC switch arrives. The three connections are from the mini-Sky dish (2x for Sky HD box, 1x for the Uno) and the fourth one is from the back of the garden.

Drilled a small hole to pass the alarm cable through for the 36v motor feed.

(Sorry about the blurriness - old camera, dark corner, shaky hands)

If you have children running about, automotive grease may not be a good idea. White lithium grease spray would be an alternative.

A cover for the bare part of the actuator arm is necessary, I made one out of a plastic bag with some pin holes to allow condensation to escape.

Beware of opening the back of the actuator when it has been outside for any length of time. I have had a cupful of rusty water over my trousers due to forgetting to stand to the side when opening it.

Nope no kids. I'll pop into local motor factors tomorrow to get some grease.

What's the cover for? I've never seen people cover actuator arms (except nelson_b).

To protect it from the elements and stop water getting inside the actuator. The rubbery inch long gasket that is provided might keep the rain out for about one minute or so. A steering rack gaiter or similar could be adapted, but I was even cheaper than that and used an old thick polythene tube and later a thick bin bag.

I would never use an actuator without some form of cover.

It's always best to use some form of protection :D:D (especially if it's an 18").......

...(actuator, actuator.....what did you think I meant???)

Welp, managed to get the flanged bearing from Rota Precision but it's just a teeny tad too small. It's 15mm as opposed to 15.5mm so there's a very slight play... Hopefully it won't affect the travel too much. Still need to find the insert - found a tube (eBay 390357318682), which cut down to size, should do the job nicely.

Also, took apart, cleaned and sprayed the mount in black. At least it will look good if nothing else!
CJ, did you "loctite" the bearing in position to stop it spinning in the mount using bearing loc or stud loc, the mount is looking really good in the pictures, could you let me know the bearing part no. please for future ref (never know when its going to come in handy).

Uhh... no. Does it need to stay still in there? Like I said, the flanged bearing is slightly too small for the hole, but I put the whole thing together just now and it's very sturdy. Already greased everything up.

But locking it in place seems like a good idea.

What, the bearing? No idea - I went to Rota Precision shop near me and asked them for something that will fit the hole (brought the whole mount in).

My steel bar has also arrived, so need to drill up some holes using my blunt drill-bits - just waiting for the drill batteries to charge up.

Order the 18 inch actuator and the VBox earlier today, so hopefully by the end of next week, I'll have something set up.
