I though VIX was an awful image. Plain, boring an about as stable as me, I.E Not very.

Go for either Blackhole or VTI, both are better images than VIX. There is also a lot more support for Blackhole.

At the end of the day its upto you which image to try, but i can guarentee eventually you will end up using Blackhole :D

You will also need to flash a new bootloader with the latest versions of Blackhole the same as with VIX.

Ok, I've updated to blackhole. Struggling with network at the moment. Do I need to be on my network to continue installing, etc or can it be done any other way ?

Hi Discoseeker,

Your stumped mate every Linux Enigma2 receiver needs to be networked so you can add plugins, Cams, Channel lists etc... either by actually downloading straight from the blackhole servers or via TSpanel which will still need to be installed by any popular FTP programme. Plus Blackhole Servers have gone the same way of every other Image maker no Cams are held on the servers you have to get hold of these independently.

Ok, thanks digi, I'll network it as soon as my chores are complete... Just so I know what I'm heading for can you advise on what FTP or application I need to install the plugins, and the plugins I need. It would be great to get a decent Channel list on it too but I'm really in the dark. Much appreciated. Karl

I find it very stable. With the Magic HD skin it's a really nice image. Uncluttered and without lots of pointless data. For me an STB is for watching TV, not checking traffic reports and all the other things that seem to be tagged on to certain images. So, while some people might call it boring others will find it user (or family) friendly. Also, support is second to none. At the end of the day it's just a matter of opinion, but whatever image you choose you can be sure a huge amount of effort and love has gone into writing it and attempting to make it better than all the others... too much dismiss in a heartbeat.

Here I've only got one active STB, so I've got it configured for everyone to use. It's got to do everything, from fast zapping on every satellite and terrestrial channel they use, to C-band and blind scan, and the ability to control all my dishes without having to think about how anything works. A big hard drive for all their recordings and plenty of tuners so there's always a free one. For me VIX handles that fine, and rarely if ever crashes.

Another vix fan here, tried a few and this seems to work much better streaming back to pc also.

Look at installing ts panel and then you have most things you will need there.

For me catseye channel setting are the best out there.

Ok, network on, working... I seem to be having a bit of an issue with blackhole, when I restart the vu+ box it seems to get stuck on the "starting GUI" screen. So I have to reinstall blackhole repeatedly. (?)

Just search for enigma2-plugin-tspanel_4.0_mipsel to bring up lots of download options.

I have not needed to load TSpanel on the VU+ Duo to get everything I need and therefore I have not loaded it. Is there aspecific application you need and is that why you want to load it? I find that TSPanel has too many options to download unnecessary extras.

Simply taking advice from the forum members. I'm needing to get as much functionality out of the unit as possible. My priorities are;
1.use my sky card in it.
2. Decent epg, and channel list
3. DVD playback ?
4. Use as network player for video
5. Time shift and recording
6. Other stuff

If you have installed the Blackhole image then you dont really need the TSpanel plugin as everything you need is available from the Blackhole Servers apart from Softcams which have to be procured elsewhere.

i will try and asnswer your Q's

1. yes you can use a your Sky card in it either with just CCcam or a combination of Oscam and Cccam or even just Oscam on its own as well
2. EPG is downloaded via Rytec servers or OpenTV which uses the Sky iEPG channel for download, Channel lists can be either manually uploaded via DCC or DBedit or downloaded direct from black hole servers.
3. yes there is a DVD plugin already installed in the Blackhole image
4. Yes just set up a share folder on your PC/Laptop and search using the media player app through the network will play back most files MKV,Xvid, AVi etc....
5. Timeshift can be setup in the menu as well as recording to either an external hard drive or USB stick
6. Other stuff can mean anything but there is lots to discover in a linux machine.

No iplayer plugin sorry but you can watch the streams

Well any FTP software will transfer the files over and then install them through the manual addons screen.

Thanks wod, been years since I used an FTP client, I shall be very rusty. I'll give it a try later and attempt to get my head around all the things I need to to be able to set up my viewing card with the box.
