Hi Vipersan, Ponny found the quartz inside the Inverto LNB (German forum) and may be it is a PLL based LNB too. I think he uses a special Openbox SX6 firmware to get the best Ka band results. My TBS-6983 card is supporting the very fast BLScan2 (e.g. CrazyScan or EBS Pro) finding about all close Ka band signals.

Thanks Eric ..
Can you find out and possibly uplink here the SX6 firmware Ponny is using ?
You may be right about the Inverto ...I certainly hope so ...but until I open one up I cant comment..
As far as set top boxes go ...we really need a high gain box dedicated to narrow band searching ...
Slow scan blindscan with at least the option to scan in smaller steps for Ka D channels..
And a firmware which wont reject manual input and storage of close proximity channels when frequencies -appear- to overlap ..
I know folk always want fast blinscan ..but when dealing with channels with such small seperation and low SRs ...fast scanning is a negative ..
The slower the better giving time to analyse and interrogate properly..
and finally
Llew ...
Interested to see your F16 results..

In Crazyscan using this LNB, I find low SRs like LC2 invariably lock first time if you untick the blind scan option and enter the correct SR.

I haven't tried my F16 yet, I'll see how it copes with LC2.

Sadly my F16 makes a dog's breakfast of LC2. Like VS, it hunts for a possible lock. When there's the occasional 11dB, SQ shows just red squares instead of green, and doesn't scan the channel in.

..and what is interesting about that Llew ..is that the XMW has no problems ...at least on the F15 that is ..

Yes, no problem with the XMW on the F15. If as Eric implies that the LNB might have a PLL quartz osc., then we would expect it to cope better with LC3. After all, the Inverto has no problem finding 21533H SR255.

Hi Vipersan, Ponny used the FAC.OPENBOX.SX6.v3.01.74.2014Aug08 firmware and you can find it e.g. at www.satshop24.com (Downloads). He also created special settings by the editor to realize the 2 MHz distance between some Ka band signals. I use the very new firmware because I cannot receive so much Ka programs this moment (60 cm dish).

I will have to check which version I'm currently using ..re firmware..
but the edited settings to recognise 2mhz seperation seems to be whats needed ..
To be honest ...I didn't realise this was editable ...using any settings editor ..
This needs investigating further ..
I just wish Ponny would post in our group ...but there may well be language issues to overcome.
thanks
VS

btw ...good to have you on board Eric ...

Has anyone tried an enigma 2 box with this in ka-band?
I will try my Azboz MiniMe tomorrow, it worked ok on the ITN stuff. I also have the Me to try as well.

Hi Ponny, welcome to the forum :)

I had to open it up!

I've removed the internal covers to better see how the Ka and Ku probes are arranged. The Ka section uses a DRO, with the H and V probes visible in the screenshot in the top right corner.

The Ku V and H probes are towards the left of the board. I assume there's some form of waveguide to take the incoming Ku feed down to the Ku probes (?)

I'm not sure what the oscillator section is for the Ku signal paths - maybe that crystal (PLL)?

I've already bust one Inverto LNB taking a board out John. I don't fancy making a more expensive mistake with this one :-ohcrap

@ Ponny ...
Could you please tell me what to change to make for a better scan of these channels with minimal seperation as refered to by Eric ..
I am using the Polar Edit Octagon editor

So ..looks like we were right about Ka being DRO ...
Much as I suspected in light of the XMWs superior hadling of low SRs..
Thanks for being the brave one Llew..
;)
Without extreme close ups of thre traces I would think difficult indeed to map out the circuit fully ..
Plus there doesn't seem enough wiring to the many pins on the chips ...so I suspect dual sided pcb ..or even multi layered ..
Looking again at your picture ..that xtal 25mhz ??
Is a long way from the front end of the lnb ...so possibly a clock generator for what may be a custom pic controller ..and or frequency division.
For diseqc switching and signal processing ...???
Did you note the numbers on the chips ? ..or have they been obscured ?

I'll have a proper look at it in the morning VS, eyes are too tired tonight. I'll also get a better image of the board uploaded, and put a name to some of the components, so we might be better able to figure the circuitry out - or you will, I'm sure ;)

Yes, Xtal is 25.000Y
