My Satellite Setup
Vu+ Solo - 100cm Dish - Dual LNB: monoblock LNB - Satlink WS-6908 Satellite finder
My Location
Spain - Ibiza
I have been working with this setup for weeks with no luck: Vu+ Solo - 100cm Dish - Dual LNB: monoblock LNB - Satlink WS-6908 Satellite finder. I am trying to get a signal from the Satellite Astra 2a/2b.

I get signal overload and dont know where to start. Could it be the 100cm and lnb setup?

Welcome to the forum.

Dish size should be okay for North and South but I think your problem maybe the Monobloc set up / configuration. Try setting it up first with a single LNb.

A Black Ultra is always a sound choice.

Thanks, ok will try the LNB Single Black Ultra 0,2dB.

Also I was thinking to get a motor, because I am having trouble positioning the dish. Like the PowerTech DG-280, would I still have to be precise with the position or would it find the satelite on its own?

Much harder to set up a motorised dish than a fixed one.

You'll need to follow the motor set up guides located in this section (or in my signature below). My advice would be to spend time reading and then reading again before attempting the installation :)

thanks guys for the advice very appreciated. I will try first with the single lnb, then work into more complex setups.

I should be receiving the single LNB on tuesday.. quick question about my current setup. I have this satlink 6908 that I bought cause the simple sat finder meter wasnt working...anyway I keep getting a message: antenna overload! I bought a atenuator 20db but same message...

Any ideas what this means?

it must be the cable as I tested with a manufactured cable that I bought and the antenna overload on the satlink went away.. positioned the dish to the astra 28.8E as best as i could and got a strength of 93 and quality 34. is this good? With the satlink was able to browse through some german channels, some french channels were breaking up...

Now I am stuck with another problem, I have a cable from the roof going to the tv area, I bought two diplexors to send the digital tv signal TDT (DIGITAL TERESTRIAL TELEVISION) and sattelite signal using a single cable. So testing again the signal by the tv I get this antenna overload and no channels... I have tried all options...... also without the TDT signal...

So it must be the cable, could it be that the cable needs to be changed??? WHy is it that with a cable that i setup... from the DISH to the Satlink I get this overload and with a fabicated one, I dont... I have checked the connection many times...

If you can borrow a multimeter preferably with a continuity beeper built in you can test the cable with it ..
Disconnect at both ends ..so no lnb ...and no receiver ..
Check with the meter set on low Ohms /continuity.....one probe to the outer metal caseing of the F connector ....(cable braid) ...the other to the centre solid core of the cable ..
IF there is any swing of the meter needle ...or low resistance with a digital scale ...or beep heard from the contibuity beeper ..
Then you have a short on the cable ..
Remove any diplexers ..and repeat the procedure..
If the short goes way ..then then the problem is the diplexers ..
If the short is present on just a bare cable with nothing either end ..then you need to double check the F connector ends ..
If these prove ok ..then the cable needs replacing ..
Remember it only takes one strand from the outer braid to touch the centre core of the cable to produce a short ..and this is the usual cause of a fault showing up as loading ..or short circuit..

ok, I will try to get one to test the cable...

I couldnt get anything on the reciever so I checked the dish again.. I seem to have lost the sattelite on its own... strange. is it possible to tell the angle from the attached photo.. I am not sure where to read from as there is two sets of degrees. I am trying to get the Eurobird 1 & Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D at 28.2°E satellite.

The elevation for Astra 2 in Ibiza is 37degrees (according to dish pointer), so try to follow this set of numbers. You seem to have the dish way too high as it is - on the limit. Also, push the LNB outwards a bit so that the collar is in the middle of the LNB neck.

Also, why are you scanning Hot Bird on your meter - those parameters don't exist on Astra 2. Try a strong TP in your location - 11954 H, SR 27500, FEC 2/3 (carries BBC and radio stations)

the meter image is relevant as I was scanning for the hotbird to no avail. One more thing, on the sat mount should the degrees be upside down?.. not sure if i installed the dish upside down.

Judging by the fact that you are right at the end of the travel, it is quite likely the dish and bracket are wrongly assembled.

The dish is the right way up (look at the neighbouring one). Either way, those parameters are wrong for the Hot Bird as well..... Look on Lyngsat for frequencies.

Doesn't look wrong - I don't see another way of assembling this...

Finally!!! Thanks guys, I have been on this for weeks, set the dish to 37º as advised. Posting an image of the meter. Is the quality ok? the channels seem fine...

Next will try the monoLNB.

Quality is ok if the desired Channels remain in lock .............. you might now try to optimise LNB skew so that both Horizontally and Vertically Polarised Channels are received equally well.
