You must be a Windows admin?! Unix is case sensitive (as is c#) ;)

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the Darkside (Dreambox owner) :)

I've just been trying to follow the idiots guide. I have a question. Why do we create a new user profile on the pc for the dreambox? Is this so that nobody else can access it other than the dreambox ip?

I only have XP Home on this machine so i can't do detailed permissions? Is XP Home ok for this?

Yep, XP home is ok, it is what I have here.
By the way, to make things easier I named the new used "d", with password "d", makes it faster when changing images to reenter all the details.

I am not sure why we have to create a new user, but all I know it works...

The DB local mount /hdd/movie is specific to the image, nothing to do with cifs in general. May be different eg /mnt/movie or movies in some image, it is a question of finding out. Regards.
I had to use
/mnt/hdd
works fine now

OK, I got another question: I have heard that there are certain settings that one can do to the network settings or the network card that improves the quality of the picture. When I watch a recorded movie it sometimes does break up the picture a bit, or one gets small disturbances. I am not sure if it is in the file during the recording or during playback, but I am sure there are certain settings that can be set to optimse this.

Anyone?

Hi guys,
This is really doing my head in
Using both wireless (54mbit) and wired (100mbit) connections the PVR recorded .ts stream freezes every 20 seconds or so (even if I play it on the PC), and playback via the DM causes it to crash totally.
If I use NGRAB I can only play it back on the PC because if I try to stream it back to the TV via the DM500 it just freezes and crashes.

I've tried loads of images Gemini 3.2 - 4.00, Helenite, and PB, and had the same awful outcome.
Can anyone help me fix this, or should I jump off a tall building, or maybe buy a Technomate?

Cheers :)

I just edited my config file, and set the rsize and wsize to 16384, using putty and vi. I closed the file using :x and then opened it via FTP to check that the changes were saved. They were indeed, so I rebooted the box just in case that is necessary, then made a new recording, and tried to play it back in file mode.
Absolutely no difference, but when i went into the config file it had defaulted back!!!

How the hell can it do that?

Are there any network latency issues? Have you tried with the PC firewall off? Is the hard drive internal or external?

Can't comment on ngrab as I've only used CIFS.

If you've tried with different images the only common factors are the Dreambox or the PC; have you tried a different PC?

No, the network itself seems to be doing nicely. The PC has no firewall, though the wireless router does, although somewhat primitive.
The drive I am using is the PC's internal HD.
No worries about NGrab as it's CIFS I want to use really.
I have also tried with my old laptop, and my desktop PC, all of which created the same problem.

Yes, it is. The mount itself is fine.

Today I contacted DM who asked me to try the original firmware so as to verify if it is a hardware problem.

I also visited their forum and found this http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/b...81&threadview=0&hilight=&hilightuser=0&page=1

I downloaded the 2 reworked files, and am now using them, and it is much much improved, not perfect, but I am amazed at the difference!

I am confused as to why yours works with no trouble though!

Short of swapping boxes, I don't know :)

Are you recording from the Dreambox (yellow button) rather from a PC? How much space is in /var?

I'm recording using the PVR function... the one that records a .ts stream, which contains in some cases 3 audio tracks! If I could get that down to 1 only it might help.

This evening I am going to change the block write and read size to 24mb to see what effect that has.

Failing that I will put on the original DMM image like the manufacturer suggests and try it again. If it then has the same problem they say to return it to the vendor. I'd be glad to see the back of it to be honest.

Well, I'm pleased to say I finally found the solution!

The only way I can get streaming to work properly is by reimaging with the Peter Pan Neverland image.

It's a world apart. Shame it took so long, as I've missed so many good programs by now, but it's ready for Christmas :-Cbigsmil

I am using a DM 600 PVR with Hard drive.
I have ftped the video files to my PC.
Now I tried to use Ulead DVD Factory to edit and author the .ts files.
It doesnt accept the ts format.
Is there a codec for this?
Can anyone suggest some way out.
I love the DVD version 6 and do not deviate from it.
